I would first like to thank Josh Bellows, for helping me get up over a large tree root right off the start Sunday afternoon. I would like to thank everyone that was there to give words of encouragement to me, and all the riders out there on a fun but challenging coarse, and on a very hot day. There is a nice article in the Monday edition of the Cortland Standard, about our WNYOA series. WNYOA made the front page, with a picture of Saturday's quad race. The riders that were interviewed for the article did a nice job, in promoting our series as very family oriented, and great fun for all age groups. Thanks to Mark and Cindy Davis, and all there volunteers for all the hard work that they put in this past weekend, it did not go unnoticed by myself and many others that I spoke with. Look forward to seeing everyone at Unadilla, in a couple of weeks. CHUCK REED SENIOR B #879 and BIKE RIDER REP.
I found a dirt bike seat at the Sunday afternoon race at Knobby Acres it is black call me I will be at Unadilla or come her to my house and get it. My buddy believes it came off from a KTM not sure.. Call me 1-607-857-5316 Call or text anytime Pat Lane #644 Quad College C

I wanted to thank Wade Huebner in the College C class, as well as the sweepers on the utility quads who helped me at Thunder Ridge when I was stranded in the woods and couldn’t open my eyes from all the mud on Sunday. Wade stopped and tried to use the water from his camelback to flush my eyes out and the sweepers that came around put me on a quad and brought me to the paramedics, along with going back up and riding my quad down to my truck. You guys have no idea how much I appreciate the help. Thanks again.

I would like to thank the guys that helped us get out of the mud on Sunday. Our truck and camper was having difficulty getting out of the mud. These guys come out in the rain and lent a helping hand with out even being asked. They saw someone with an issue and did everything in their power to help. You truely made us feel like being a member of the wynoa was like a being a part of a wnyoa family. THANK YOU!!!!!

As for the track. The weather was not on your side. My mini rider loved the track. He said it was hard and long but fun. He wanted to go again. My peewee rider didn't care for it and only did one lap and was done. This is their favorite track, so we blame the weather. The rain could have waited till monday!!! Plus there were no arrow to show you how to get to the track.

As noted in a previous posting, the Wayne County Motorcycle Club (WCMC) has opted to not hold the Newark Enduro this year.  As a result, myself along with a great group of offroad motorcycling enthusiasts will be holding the 1st annual Funduro on Sept 26th.  This is both a WNYOA and NETRA sanctioned event.  Our land owners have been extremely gracious, and we have gotten permission to ride on some awesome pieces of property.  Many of the trails are brand new, or haven't been ridden in years.  Our focus is to have very high quality, C rider friendly trails rather than just a high quantity of miles of trail.   The Palmyra Racing Association is letting us use their Hogback Hill facility for the start/pit.  We hope to see a great showing of WNYOA riders to help make this event a success.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions via email at jaked308@hotmail.com

Apparentely the newark enduro article is not accurate, I just heard this am that Hogback Hill MX Park may be hosting the race. A change of venue but still on, any WNYOA officers know what the real deal is?   J Heerkens #337
I would like to say that the Cayuga County race in King Ferry , was a GREAT track! In my opinion.. Hands down , the best track of the season!   Billy Ray #588 Quad Junior C
I read a posting in the local rag this past weekend that the Newark Enduro is cancelled this year. Pretty sad for such a long standing race but I understand. It appears that the work required to put it on has overtaxed the people at the WCMC. If you think about it the logistics of this race are extreme  because of all the different property owners that must be consulted, unlike the courses in the southern tier on large tracks of land the Newark Enduro crosses many small tracks of land with each one presenting its own logistic difficulties. What a sad day beacuse for the past few years the Newark Enduro has been a blast with a great course layout.   Good luck in the future WCMC and thank you for many great races.   Jon Heerkens Super Senior # 337

Thanks for the detailed reply on the scoring situation on the forum and in my email.  Didn't say it was an easy job, just voicing my opinion to see if there are options to help you out.  As WNYOA gets bigger every year, I would hope you are looking into possible shortcuts or programs that will help make your job easier for next year.  I appreciate your time dedicated to WNYOA.  Thank you, Scott Mawhiney #147
Everyone, I understand the frustration and I understand that you want your points posted as fast as possible but may I explain.  First you are working with a totally new team for WNYOA this year and we certainly would hope that all would understand the learning curve, which we are all getting better.  Second, I enter you at registration, I get home approximately at 11 or 12 PM on Sunday night after each event, on Monday I do all the data base information that needs done to get totals to promotors and to the proper spreadsheets.  Roger forward to me on Monday all the results, Tuesday I sort, double check against the wave sheet, pull all DNF and format all these spreadsheets to Becky to be posted.  On Wednesday I get all information to Elaine so she can start to apply the points.   Now than Thursday I have to get the data base ready for the next race, print all forms and wave sheets, sound test, etc. so that we can be ready to leave on Saturday Morning, this is in addition to working 40 hours a week and taking care of a family.    To have results by Tuesday for a race on Sunday is not feasible....we will work to get you the results as quickly as possible, understand that we have racers too, and we know the importance of getting this information posted, but we are also aware that it has to be correct.  More hands is not the answer as we tried that earlier in the season, the information has to be center so that it can be cross referenced...we appreciate the offers of help, but the best way to help at this point is to understand that it is not as simple as most people think. Gail Wilson Data Base Administrator

I would like to know what the issue is this year with getting race results and year end points posted?   I've repeatedly checked the help wanted section of the site for a request of help in this area.....but nothing.  If there is a issue I'm sure some devoted fan/ racer/ proud parent/ dedicated promoter/ etc.... would love to help.  This sport excites all of us and so does the points chase.  Getting out a sheet of paper and trying to figure it out yourself is getting old and frusterating!  If you need help ask.  Lets finish the last half of the season with prompt results....at least by tuesday.  Good luck to all you class leaders and leader chasers....if you know where you stand.  Scott Mawhiney-Quad Jr. A #147

I want to add to the King’s Ferry quad race as well. Awesome track!!  This track has become my favorite one of the season. I can’t think of one part of it that I was disappointed with. Thanks for a great day!

i lost my exhaust off my banshee at the king ferry race i would like to get it back if u have this call me at 2167849 thanks

There are a handful of Pee Wee parents that make the rest of us look bad in how they present themselves at these races. Our children are like little sponges, their job at this age is to take information in and learn from it. It’s a natural fact of life that humans learn by example. You can lecture your kids day in and day out, but what they really remember is your actions. It is important as parents that we understand the opportunity we have to teach these kids self confidence and proper sportsmanship in this sport. Good sportsmanship not only in this sport but in life in general refers to virtues of courage, self-control, determination, persistence, and mainly to act maturely and properly in cases when they lose. By us parents setting good examples and teaching proper sportsmanship we are showing our FUTURE how to learn to deal with failure and unfavorable conditions which is very important to develop fully and especially useful when they grow up and face the real world. A perfect way for our children to adopt good sportsmanship is by seeing it in the attitudes and behavior of the parents. Our ultimate goal should be a positive impact on the development of their character, enjoy the activity they are engaging in, fairness, sense of fellowship, respecting your opponents, and above all INTEGRITY. Remember that this sport is your child’s, not yours! They are our future, words of encouragement equals reassurance that they are worthy to do this sport and succeed in life. With this being said, start working together on the track instead of against each other. These are children learning a sport we have initially involved them in, how would you like if your child wrecked and everyone turned their back on him/her because they are the “so called competition.” This is my son’s first year racing, and he has told me numerous times that when he sees someone stopped, he stops and says are you ok, he is 6! We are adult’s, learn from my six year old. I tell my son that every race is for fun, yes it is nice to win, but as long as he has fun, he is not injured, and that he wants to do it again next week, that means we had a good day at the races. I hope you Pee Wee parents really read take this post and try to change how you are out there on the track, not only for yourself, but for the future of hare scramble racing. –J Carling

to the owners and volunteers who helped make the quad track for sundays 8-1-10 at kings ferry i myself am giving you two thumbs up i heard all week about how you guys dont like quads well i would love to see your track if you loved us GOOD JOB TO ALL !! i had a great time james (jimbob) bobzien #349 quad vet B

To everyone that complains about track conditions, this was a great track, but if you were in the same position I was, it was ridiculously tight. This is why racers should work some races, so you can have an input on things like this. I know I will probably work this race next year so we can hopefully get rid of the sections where your foot pegs won’t even fit between trees. It was a fun track but it sucks when you come to trees and don’t even have enough room to put your feet down because your bars are stuck and the trail is so tight.

On another note, thank you to the people that helped me get my bike out of the trail and my helmet off. I appreciate it!! I should have listened to you though and stopped racing right there, about 4 miles from there my chain snapped. I ended up going to the hospital for my leg where you helped me out and I have a huge hematoma (blood filling my leg). The adrenaline was rushing though and I figured it doesn’t hurt unless the bone shows, haha. Thanks again.

Also, Congrats to Aaron Lewis on his 3rd straight win, good race buddy.

I would like to give a big thanks to ALL of the workers for Sundays race.  They did an excellent job of keeping the course open, and rerouting the track when it needed it.  I guess the one major comment I have if for the peewee's.  Not the riders themselves' but the parents.  I have noticed this in the past, and never really paid attention to it, but this year, I have seen how bad they really are.  To start, when I hear a parent yelling at a barrel worker about the course, and how bad it looks, and that his kid has to try to ride in those conditions  - my word to this parent, get your money back and go home.  These same parents, will not lift a finger to help any other kid but their own, even if they fall in front of them.   I went into the woods to see what was down there, and ended helping a bunch of kids.  There were parents in there, but they would only help their kid and not the other one because the other one was in "little Jimmy's" class.  I think that if these peewee parents think it is so easy to put on a race, then they should get together, and be putting that part of the race on by them selves, and helping out the promoters.  These parent should be the ones doing the scoring, and such for the little ones.  They just might get a reality lesson on how hard it is to work with "themselves" on a race day.  This would also help the promoter, so they do not have to split his work crew up to have some for the peewee's.   Mark D
We all know how much it rained Saturday night, but the crew pushed on.  The first lap was wild, but the new lines were being found and the track workers were out in full force.   We thought the cow (and all its offroad details) on the plaque was really cool too!.  Extremely creative !!!  Hats off to all the landowners, volunteers and organizing body for another fun weekend.   Sincerely, Mike, Sherri, Nick and Kevin J.

Hats off to the designer of the High Gear Dirt Rider plaques given out Sunday. Got many compliments on it. This is one for the wall.

Tom Vasko Quad SR B 756

Sportsmanship, thats all i have to say!!! On the first lap of the adult bikes coming through the barrels, I seen 2 bikes battling for the lead, they couldn't have been 5 seconds apart when they hit the barrels. When they headed back into the woods, the leader, 617, got caught up on a root and was stuck, the other bike, 616, passed him when he was stuck and then stopped and reached back and pulled him over the root and let him go back in front of him and they took off as if it were another day just riding in the woods. I wouldn't expect to see this type of sportsmanship out of a rider especially when there is 500 people standing right there to help the stuck rider out, and on top of that, they were battling for the lead, they weren't last!! Hats off to you 616, I hope everyone can learn from you and be sportsmans!!

During the Pee Wee race this past Sunday at High Gear, there was a lady working the barrels smoking as she was scanning the kids coming through. Now one of those riders is my six year old son and I do not appreciate him being exposed to second hand smoke at anytime, let alone when he is busting his butt out there and has to inhale a cloud of some lady’s cigarette smoke because she can’t wait for that nic fix for forty-five minutes. The parents of these Pee Wee riders pay a nice chunk of change yearly to be in this series, and would like to continue to remain in this series, but I am sure I am not the only parent when I say, I DO NOT appreciate smoke being blown in my sons face as he is coming through the barrels. If you cannot wait forty-five minutes to have a smoke, DO NOT BE PART OF OUR PEE WEE RACE! I am sure there are enough parents out there that would help out at the barrels if need be to keep this woman out of the barrels and from this type of behavior-J. Carling

Hats off to the High Gear guys and gals, they pulled off a great event in some tough conditions.   I am sure there are a few folks that didn't have a great day.  It is a shame we had that much rain the night before so that we didn't get to use all of the track that had been prepared.  The right call was made to remove it, the track length ended up working well for conditions.  I like to see races slow down and become technical once in awhile.  High Gear had plenty of workers pointing lines and rerouting sections of the track when it became nearly impassible.  If we give an award for the coolest looking awards, this one was a hands down winner. Looking forward to future events from these guys. Just wanted to say thanks to the organizers and volunteers at Beaten Trails for putting together a great race.  The course had great variety – loved the creek section – and there were people pointing the way all over the course.  Nice job!

Hi all,

Just wanted to say thanks to the volunteers making these events happen, I only started riding at Victory Hill and I’ve had a blast since. The rest of us can only imagine the headaches to pull off a 500+ rider XC race on private land, so props to the organizers (especially Miles Mtn and IDR) for doing an awesome job of it.  Last week there was a volunteer/spectator pointing the way on almost every corner (standing in the dust) so hats off to them.   Looking forward to High Gear and some rain this weekend!

Thank you to the worker out on the track at Beaten Trails during the Youth Quad race that helped our son Jake Slocum #880 with getting his chain back on so he was able to finish the race.   When there is a 1.8 mile track its good to know there are workers out there willing to help out the younger ones.  Thanks for volunteering your time.

This is my first "full" season of WNYOA racing but my 3rd year as a race
promoter/helper. I have heard over and over about cutting the coarse and or
riding in farmers crops. Our club even had to pay for extensive damage to two
crops at our race for people not staying where the arrows and or yellow ribbon
is. I understand that ribbon and stakes get knocked down but you would think
common sense would take over.
Myself, I have always been somewhat prejudice about who the "violators" were
when this kind of stuff happens, always thinking its the young, don't care kinda
riders. Of course this opinion came without actually witnessing it happening but
this past weekend at Beaten Trails I DID see it first had. To my amazement it
happened in a class, my class, that I would have never expected it to happen
being that my class all the riders are over 40 years old. Yea 40+, you would
think there would be much more common sense, respect etc in a class with men
supposedly all "grown up". Now maybe the farmers in that area don't care, I
don't know and maybe because the dust was so bad that this rider felt safe or
something getting out of the dusty traffic, don't know, but to go out into the
middle of a crop...past where the ribbon was apparently knocked down...and blast
5th gear tapped to get by the rest of us?

So I guess with that said I have to change my opinion on who the violators were
and apologize to the younger riders having always thought it was them. Even some
of the older riders must think...or not think, that's probably a better way of
putting it...but they must think that that wooden plaque is worth the possible
few hundred dollar loss the farmer would sustain.

Common sense says...fields, crops, trails on the edge of said field, stakes and
arrows down the edge of said field...well that to me says...STAY OUT of the
field.

Maybe some of these riders just don't know what a crop is?      J.Bulman  Sr
C...yea 40+
Want to say a big THANK YOU to Dr. Mike Maresca for the scholarships given to riders including my son Alex #79 Jr mini a. On behalf of, what I am sure is everybody, the class was excellent and everyone enjoyed, learned, and benefited! Good job and thanks Steve!

"Barbed Wire" Enduro was Huge fun. If you haven't rode an an enduro, you won't regret it. This was my first of many more. The weather was perfect and so was the course and people involved. Big Congratulations to Joe Manning and STER for putting on a GIANT and super fun event.   Jim Dempsey 998
I have never raced a WNYOA hare scrambles, but I “used to” cut a lot of trails for the WNYOA hare scrambles and I “used to” course marshal for WNYOA hare scrambles.  I “used to” help hurt and stuck junior and adult WNYOA hare scramblers, even though my kids don’t race.  I “used to” spend a lot of my money and time travelling to and from WNYOA hare scrambles to cut trail and course marshal.

What did I get paid for doing all of this work?  ZERO.  I did because I enjoyed the sport of dirt bike and ATV cross country racing.

Notice I said “used to”.  I, and many others, “used to” work WNYOA events, and now we are no longer there; and people complain about the course quality and the lack of volunteer “workers”.

Why did I stop volunteering?  Was it when I saw the litter in parking lot and on the course after the event?  Was it when I watched a racer be rude to a sign-up volunteer?  Was it when I saw the angry parent screaming at the 6 year-old for not giving 110% at a hot, muggy, miserable race?   Was it when I got yelled at and PHYSICALLY THREATENED by a stuck racer when I wasn’t pulling hard enough to unstuck their machine?  Or was when a read the whining on this forum about the weather, mud, and dust and other things outside of the promoters control?

Please consider choosing your words and actions carefully.  Or at there may be even less workers at the next race or there may not even be race, and you may have to drive farther to race.  If you really want to improve your series, rather than complain, consider contacting the promoter directly and offer constructive advice.  Or better yet, offer to help.

- Matt Ryder, a former WNYOA volunteer

Hi everyone, I am a proud peewee parent and I have been for the past three years. I would like to say on the behalf all the parents that do continue to help and cheer on every peewee rider possible, We are out there helping everyone. I feel we are getting a bad rap for a couple of bad eggs. This is not fair to those of us that walk away from the races muddy and sometimes exausted from helping other kids besides there own. At Arcadia my step dad and I were at the finish line pushing kids through the mud to get them started again, and picking a couple up the and getting them started again. Miles mountain, I helped pick up and  couple kids. I always walk away hoarsed from cheering everyone on. I wish they all had there names on the name plate so I knew what name to yell as they are racing by. These kids need all the encouragement as possible and I try to do as much as I can. But I am tired of being ashamed of saying I am a peewee parent. I should be proud. So if you can't say anything nice please stop saying anything at all. And I agree with Alan if you think it is unsafe then don't let your child race. Safety should be the parents first priority. Thank you to all the parents and workers that have helped my son when he was down. And sorry he is covered you in mud when he took off. He is still getting used to his new bike on take off.

If anyone had any doubts about making the bike race a 1 hour race, it definitely was the correct choice.  Kudos to those involved with this decision.  Miles Mountain pulled of a first class event, good trail length and they where on top things from a facility standpoint.  I felt sorry about their grass and the few fools that found it necessary to show off their inability to drive their vehicle in low traction conditions.  Still washing bikes, gear and rig.  See you at High Gear, looking forward to another great WNOYA race. I came to the race this weekend and after getting my truck stuck in the mud decided not to do it.  I figured it was better to take the loss on my entry fee and the DNF rather than race in conditions that could be harmful, and at the very least, very uncomfortable.

I guess I don’t understand all the complaints.  If you didn’t think it was safe for yourself/your child, then you should have pulled yourself or your child out of the race.  Even if you are in a points battle.  Safety should be more important right?

Bashing the club and saying they shouldn’t be allowed to hold another event is ridiculous though!  Many of the racers in WNYOA are from the Rochester area and this is a close to home race for us.

Come on guys and gals, you posted that the year end point spreadsheet would be posted on Friday the 11th. While I am sure it is a PITA, dont post it unless you going to do it and then to remove the post is just plain goofy. This site has probably quadroupled (sp?) the amount of internet hits with that post.   FYI, when we racers trash our bikes because of points, the least the management can do is to post the points. We have a great series, one that I rave about all the time, but it is simple stuff like this that breed discontent.   Jon Heerkens  SSB #337
I only have a couple comments on Arcadia. First, Parking was not adequate even if we didn't get any rain. Second, The track was what it was, If you showed up to the start and thought it was going to be an ideal race.....REALITY CHECK! Those conditions were near impossible for any promoter to control at any event.I can relate to the promoters position of not cancelling! It was a loose loose for them either way.Anyone racing long enough had to have known that! Racers are going race regardless of conditions. If you don't want to roll the dice, get your money back. And YES it was a very expensive weekend for us! Camper ,bike and truck! With a little DNF thrown in for good measure! I would like to point out to WNYOA what I see as the problem with starting on time. Tech Inspection! Every race there is a very long line of riders waiting to get through tech! 10 minutes before the start time! Tech inspection should be opened up at noon on Saturday and through to each event on Sunday. Give them a sticker, and let them on the line when race time comes.Tell them to be there 15 minutes prior  for a riders meeting and START on TIME! We race several different series up and down the east coast and WNYOA is the only one that struggles to start on time. And the only one with tech inspection at the start line. It only takes one person to run tech.If it is a personnel issue for the promoter, ask for volunteers at the gate! myself and I am sure others wouldn't have a problem sitting at tech for an hour or so.Just a suggestion, lets put Arcadia behind us! There is an entire season of racing ahead of us! Looking forward to seeing everyone at Miles Mountain! AND guess what ? Its going to be wet and muddy! Proud parent of #922!    Carl Williams
Well, we just finished getting all the mud and grass off the quad, what a weekend, no bashing here. Just writing to congratulate my son Ian on a great performance at the John Penton GNCC last Saturday, 4th in the Pro-AM class and 12th overall, not bad! Keep up the good work, it will pay off.  Dad ..Bucky Laufersweiler
I wish to address the race on the pee wees on Sunday. If you were on the line at eight you would know that there were three track sweepers who put themselves at the problem areas, you would have also been able to talk to the land owner who put himself at another problem area even though he wasn't working, did it occur to anyone that the sweepers were busy with all the kids? Also I saw lots of parents helping everyone's kids in the mud holes, I know that my son was helped out of the water by a very kind young women who then walked him out. I saw lots of parents lending a hand, and that's how it should be there may be one or two who need to learn sportsmanship but overall I see lots of great people. Remember good or bad conditions it is your choice to put your child on the line and if you do it is up to you to make sure they enjoy what they are doing. Kyle father of Adam #48 pee wee sr8
This weekend was rough.  The course was a wash out. We had severe weather overnight Saturday. It happens.  If you've been racing enough years you know it happens.  You have to make a judgement call.  I made a very unpopular decision for my son.  He was stuck in a mudhole for over 20 minutes, after alot of time and energy to get out, he was exhausted.  No course workers around to help.  Either not enough to start, or conditions hampered their ability to get around or too many minis needed assistance.  After first lap I decided it wasn't worth the risk to his well-being or to the bike and I pulled him.  I could complain but I had options from the start and I knew what it could be like out there.  This is off-road racing. It is not flat track, it is not motocross (which btw was cancelled Sunday a.m.). We park in fields not facilities.  You need to make decisions based on what is best for you and your situation and live with the consequences.   That being said, I do think promoters have choices too and should highly consider protecting the landowner's interests as well as the risks to the racers.  We should always think about preserving our race sites as we may lose them for future use if they are abused.  These issues should be weighed against worrying about making members upset about travelling and having to turn around when conditions are so extreme.  Yes I would be disappointed but if you know racing and what the end result to the land could be, then you get it.   As far as cheating.  You need to live with yourself and your reputation if you cheat.  A win is only sweet if you actually raced against your opponent and beat them to win.   If you are not confident in your own abilities and unable to race fairly then you really haven't raced against your opponents and it's very questionable about how good you really are. Eventually you can't hide a lack of talent or good sporstmanship.   To the Best's.  I feel badly for you and the rest of the people involved in the PeeWee races.  When my son raced PW, the parents involved fanned out along the track, there were not many courseworkers and maybe one sweeper.  We helped each others kids even if they were beating our own.  I've picked up many, dusted them off, wiped tears and restarted lots of bikes over the years.  Those kids knew no matter who was around the corner they were not alone if there was a problem. They are learning how to race, good sportsmanship and how to develop character.  Role models are on and off the track.  I count as my blessings the many friends I've made in WNYOA over the years.  We are tight knit, we help each other out with parts, we eat together, often times drink together, bust each others chops and have socialized outside of racing as well.  We support each others successes and cheer each others kids on when they do well.  We are still vying for the same trophy but that's not always the most important thing in life. It's how you conduct yourself, the friends you make and knowing you have people you can count on to look out for your kid in a very dangerous sport.  I hope some of the PW parents read this post and realize they might want a change in attitude.    Onto Race 4 and Miles Mountain!!!!!   Christine Church

Concerning shortening the track.. the statement below was taken from the 2009 rules, the length IS different for 2010, BUT the" EXCEPT WHERE " is still there and in effect..

A hare scramble is an event conducted on a closed course, using trails and paths over natural
terrain. The course will be a minimum of 7.5 miles for bikes, 6.0 miles for quads and at least one
mile for Pee Wee & Youth Quad classes, except where weather and terrain conditions require
course changes and length reduction. An official WNYOA odometer will be used by a WNYOA
designated rider during the event. There will be an appeal process for promoters not meeting the
minimum requirement

Concerning approaching a blocked track..Bottleneck...

Riders encountering a traffic jam or bottleneck may go more than the 25 feet off the course to get
around the bottleneck only. However, the rider must re-enter the course as soon as possible and
upon approaching this section on the next lap, must ride the original arrowed section of the track if
it is clear. If the original marking devices are knocked down, the rider must stay on the original
marked course. A “bottleneck” is a section of the track that becomes impassable for any reason
with the exception of checkpoints

Unfortunately I didn't make it to last weekends mudfest, I was busy at the GNCC mudfest in Ohio and I suspect it wasn't any better than Acadia.  The calling a race because of weather is a difficult proposition from series and promoter stand point.  Often the schedule is full and rescheduling the race is difficult or impossible.  And canceling the race after the plaques and supplies have been purchased means financial distress for the promoter.  The Friday rule is good, believe me I drove to the race Newark that had been cancelled Saturday after I left(I am fairly confident no one drives further than I do).  Once the commitment has been made to hold the event all you can do is make the best of the situation.  I have been at national races recently that have been cut a lap short or shorten an hour.  There are plenty of unhappy people when this happens, it may cost someone a national championship;   The reality is off-road racing is unpredictable and if you want to only race on sunny days you are going to miss out on some great racing.  The weather forecast for Miles Mountain shows rain again and I will be ready to race. Mud beats dust any day. Tim Anderson #335 Super Senior B

WOW

First anyone who would write that we are paying to much to the score keeper, has no real idea of what goes on in this organization. I bet Roger puts in at least 6hrs or more a day during the week all day Saturday and Sunday plus holding down his day job so you can go racing. Go do the Math no one is getting rich!!!!! So let's lay off Roger, His position was and is still open for anyone who would like to step up and help.

I think the promoters should have the right to cancel the race if conditions turn like they did. Some tracks could have handled that kind of rain this was not one of them. And I feel bad for the poor farmer who gave his property up so we could race and we repaid him by running thru his bean fields and destroying his woods.  Yes you guys lost some points HE LOST A LOT MORE!  Like Lenny said that land was ruined. And I bet the Bark Busters are going to have to pay to reseed his crops that, will kill their bottom line maybe even put them out of business.

And the last thing is the Pee Wee's. Promoters you need to realize some of these young riders are 4 -5 year olds who are just starting out. They need your help. I have not seen that many workers at any of the races this year. At least not on the pee wee tracks. This problem needs to get fixed. We see a lot of 25 points being handed out, Let's make sure we earn them.

My last thought is maybe WYNOA should hold a promoters meeting to address some of these issues and get a plan together before we have even more problems. No mater how much you want to complain about WNYOA and the promoters this is still a great place to race!!

Thanks

The Wrights

I have been coming to the races for over a year now, to help out my buddy racing.  This past weekend, was the worst that I have ever seen things.  In one respect, I think that the promoter did the best that they could have done due to the conditions.  Also, the people that races that are complaining, They knew the conditions when they lined up on the line, and they had to option not to race.  If they chose to race, then the blame lies on themselves, not the promoter.   My second issue - the quad race.  If anyone ever laid a hand on my girlfriend like that guy did to the course worker, I do not know exactly what I would do, only that it would not be good.    The other issue with the quad race - Riders and the cheating, and the spectators that enable this.  The rider that was stopped for cutting, and argued with the course worker, and then argued with the others that would not let him cheat.  That rider and his temper should be banned.  He wanted to "kick the crap" out of some other worker for NOT allowing him to CHEAT.    The only reason that I wanted to write this is because of the postings on facebook and the others listed in the forum.  I have noticed that most of both of the postings are more complaints, but that is mainly because they have no idea what it takes to put on a race and work one, or do not know the parties involved, or are only going off other peoples word.  I would like to congradulate the course worker that stood her ground and would not allow the cheating.    Dave Lagner spectator and friend of racer
I am very disappointed with sundays race. We all know we cant control  the weather, but the track layout and lack of sweepers was unacceptable. My son mini c+ 181 rode his butt off for over an hour to finish the race. As he went through the barrels the screen said mini c+ 181 7th place. Upon checkin the results he was listed as a dnf, he did finish the race. I know he doesnt get a trophy but he does deserve the points. I was unaware of the results post as likr everybody else was mired in mud. If the quads are all getting 10 pts my son deserves his!! AJ HANSON faather of JAKE HANSON minic + 181 Would like to hear from a wnyoa official on this issue if possible
I have been racing for a while now and have come to like having all different types of terrain. I think wnyoa is doing a decent job  . I think the Friday rule is good because you know before you leave home  that its bad track conditions. once your at the race I think that its good they don't cancel I don't want to drive to a race for nothing once the weather or track conditions get bad over night you can make the call if you want to race or if  you want to  pack up and leave. I chose to race and I cant blame anyone else for that and even though I didn't do great I had fun so with that said hope everyone can put last weekend behind them and look forward to this weekend and the rest of the year.

This is my sons First Year College C class. I was very disappointed with the family members at the mud pit after the scoring sending the quads way off course. I mentioned to them that they were only hurting the riders because of possible disqualifications. Some of them mentioned that there was a bottle neck and everyone was getting stuck. Well not everyone was stuck or no one would have made it through there. It obviously is not fare to have some go through the tuff spots and some not. If they wanted for everyone to go on the easy path they would have you on dirt road and not trails. There was one gentleman sending some 4wheelers through the mud hole and others easier ways to cut the course. Only thing I could figure he was sending his sons competitors the difficult route and others the easy path. I was disappointed to see so many family members arguing with officials insisting on 4 wheelers to cut the course. The rules mention something about only so many feet from the center of the marked trail. Maybe if they were to disqualify some for cutting the course they would not have such a problem with family members encouraging this make an example.   Just thoughts from someone new to the sport  Rob Parker
I just wanted to say that I agree with many of the statements already made here on the forum.  With all the rain and the tornado warnings, the promoter should be able to cancel the race at any time.  I also know, that cancelling the race Sunday morning would also lead to complaints, however, it would have allowed for future races there.

We are parents of 2 pee wee riders and I have to agree with Lenny Baltimore.  Where were the workers?  With this much rain and mud, there needed to be many workers out there to help these kids.  I think that promoters forget that there are little kids out there.  My youngest is 4 years old and there are other kids there that are just learning to race.  I think that the parents are going to have to join together to make sure that all the troublesome areas are covered to help keep these little guys safe.  I spoke to a parent at the orange fence this past weekend who said that some parents have gotten together to go to different sections of the track and we would love to be a part of that.  I think that until promoters are forced to have a certain number of workers then it is up to the parents to make sure our kids are safe out on the track.

At Victory Mountain, my 4 yo fell and my husband was running down to him and other parents walked by him and left him laying under his bike.  I have said this last year and now again this year...at Arcadia, a parent was screaming at his kid, who was crying because he didn't want to go any further....It saddens me to see this.  I complained about the same stuff last year and it still hasn't changed.  Is a wooden plaque that important that it supercedes decency?  We have been racing another series and this kind of behavior has never happened nor would it be tolerated.

And finally, I would like like to thank Ray and Elaine Davis for working so hard at Victory Mountain to get the pee wee results straightened out.  Your effort was greatly appreciated.

The following rule was put in place because of a few situations that for one reason or another the promoter cancelled an event after Friday evening (if my memory serves me correctly one was cancelled Sunday morning and another Saturday afternoon). Many riders were unhappy that they drove all the way to the event only to find that it had been cancelled.

 21. If any WNYOA event needs to be cancelled, (due to weather, etc.) the promoter will notify the WNYOA president on Friday prior to the scheduled event so that the cancellation can be posted on to the WNYOA web site.

I would like to get some feedback on what you would rather do:

1.     Drive to a race and have it cancelled so you have to drive back home. Have it re-scheduled and have to drive back and race another time.

2.     To have the race go on as scheduled even though there may be lots of mud, possibly many bottlenecks and potential scoring issues.

This feedback may help us shape a possible rule change in the future, thanks for your input. You can either reply to the forum or email me directly at: budgetracing@hotmail.com

I have gone back and forth on whether or not to add my two cents. After supporting my kids participation in this series for four seasons now, I think it's time for me to speak up.   First, Arcadia has gone from our most favorite race of the season with lots of room for RV parking and a great layout for family to come watch, to a race we will seriously consider skipping next year if the location, management (in certain areas), and weather are similar to this past weekend (and we live only 40 minutes away).   I understand there were significant reasons for the race being relocated, but the powers that be seem to have failed in their efforts to provide due diligence in insuring a well run event. I am referring mostly to parking and the tracks themselves.   Others have clearly detailed the multitudes of failures and to keep reiterating them here will only serve to further beat a dead horse. We all know this was far from what it should of been and I will add my vote for scrapping this race all together as the problems with this event appear far too vast to work out an equitable solution for much more than a small portion of competitors.   Likewise, rather than outright refunds, I would offer a partial refund by way of a discounted entry fee on a future race. I believe this would go a long way to acknowledge that the WNYOA organization has heard the concerns and also felt the pain of a job performed less than satisfactorily. Anything less, I fear, will leave the feeling that the organization is not listening to its racers.    I would also urge WNYOA to seriously do an extensive postmortem on this event, honestly address the issues that are very apparent to many here, and make changes and improve.   We are an infinitely competent organization, with very good/talented people tasked with pulling off events that are difficult in the best of conditions. These people give their all for little more than their love of the sport.   Just the same, my family has participated in too many very well run races over the years to not know that WNYOA can do much, much better. My family, our bikes and quad's, and our old RV will be very thankful when they do.     Michael Carpenter

Arcadia – June 6th, 2010

Well first things first, this race should have never happened. Irregardless of the NY weather always changing, everyone knew that it was going to Thunderstorm everywhere that day.  1-2 inches of rain was acknowledged on the weather station Friday morning, let alone the Tornado warning for Sunday morning.  The conditions for this race were ridiculous. You would think that WNYOA would catch the hint when they were asked for 25+ refunds back,  when normally there are only a few in a weekend.  The Friday cancellation rule isn’t just by any means.  If WNYOA is so concerned about safety, you would think that they would disregard that rule and make the call the day of the race.

Since it not being cancelled, this race should be dropped. This includes everyone, bikes and quads.  10 points being given for every quad that signed up isn’t right.  It is not fair to everyone. The Bikes will ultimately walk away with all their points, money and plaques.  Everyone knows how much more it costs to race quads then it does bikes,  these individuals rely on some sort of payback and acknowledgement for their efforts , we walk away with absolutely nothing.  Considering the bikes now have a 14 race season  and the quads only have 13 races if this would successfully be dismissed, what will WNYOA do to fix this difference?  I feel  if this race was dismissed (bikes, quads & workers) it would allow everyone to take the loss at an equal level.  Without taking away the workers points, they would come out 15 points ahead of everyone when they should have been working to fix the issues of the ribbon being down and people cutting the course.  There should be a strict number of workers for each track, if not, it is should be the promoters responsibility to find workers to cover that amount.

I would really like to know why the race was stopped after 45 minutes and whos decision it was. After allowing the quads to run for that amount of time, why stop them? People drive hundreds of miles to come to these events in hope of a good time and winning, but yet receive only headaches with all the nonsense. If WNYOA would stop paying out so much money to promoters and scoring “officials”, we could upgrade our scoring system to something more reliable and relieve the issues we’ve had every race weekend so far. These scoring officials are still getting paid for a job not completed.  Also, aren’t we supposed to have a back-up system in place, where two people keep track of each rider that comes through. My opinion for this back-up system, if you can have one person writing the number down while another is writing that lap time down,  it will eliminate any problems, and allow an overall position to be set.

Another point that needs to be acknowledged is how short the quad track got to be. According to track officials, 3.5 miles is not legal to have a race with for either quads or bikes. I am under the assumption that there is a minimum of 7-8 miles needed for a race.  This was an issue even in the beginning of the day, bikes were running a 6 mile track and that alone wasn’t right. If the property was not large enough to make all our needs be met, this event shouldn’t have even been considered. We all know how much parking is needed for these races, but unfortunately, this weekend, it was disregarded. What was supposed to be a new track, became a new disaster.

I believe that there are numerous issues that need to be addressed such as start-up  times, sign-up times being extended to certain individuals and overall disorganization.

And finally, while us riders and parents wait for our money and plaques to be given out, we were approached by only the promoter in regards to stopping the race. We really should have had our elected positions of WNYOA there to explain why the race was stopped and also how they decided to give 10 points and only the AA riders their refund back.  The Hole Shot recipiant was not allowed to have his money or medalion, which is not fair by any means due to the fact that it is determined in the beginning of the race.  For the top 3 AA riders to not receive any pay out wasn’t fair considering the top 5 guys were awaiting the results. With only 10 AA riders on the line taking off, the pay out would only be the top 3 quads. The top 5 riders were all in agreement of their positions,  which should have allowed there to be a pay out. Once again, allowing the promoter to walk away with even more money.

Hope you can understand our issues and arguments.

What a shame that all the hard work by the promoter gets washed away. I feel bad for the property and all the trashed machines. Kinda reminiscent of last years rain season, which is why I am surprised that the promoter cannot call the race if it is too bad (i.e. what they should have done @ 2009 Victory Mountian). I know that most people did not want to race in that mess, but felt they had to to get their points. It seems to me that there should be some type of rain out contingency for the people that show up and pay to enter. After all who knows what will happen the rest of the year and if you show up you almost have to race to get points or participation towards the minimum. I watched several workers at this race work their butts off, while others in the rear section did minimal amounts. Now I dont really agree with the quad scoring decision but understand something had to be done, but when it comes to the bike scoring there may be some real issues. For instance, the rear bottlenecks in the hedgrows, why is it that I was only passed in the woods sections and not in the swampy sections. The answer is the wholesale cutting of course by the people that were on their second lap or knew the track layout, had I known that I would not have to go through those hedgrows again I would have done another lap. The crummy part is that  if riders who completed only one lap and the winner did 3, any rider who busted their butt will not get points. That does not seem to be right, I sincerely hope the final scoring decision is modified to give everyone who competed and did at least a lap get their points. This may be a good time to look at a rules change (i.e. if the track is changed due to course conditions then the 50% number of laps completed compared to the winner will be waived). Remember Miles Mtn last year? there were some big track changes after the 1st lap and some riders pulled over but would have still raced had they known about the course change.   And one big THANK YOU to the riders in the rear mudholes that parked their bikes and helped out other riders get through, you guys showed some real sportmanship and unselfish behavior, If I knew who you were I would like to buy you a beer.   Jon Heerkens, Super Senior B/C # 337
Wow!  any of us who attempted to race this weekend knew it was going to be a mess.  Those of us who decided to sit it out made the right choice, the same choice that should have been made by the promoters.  I could not believe I was to the barrels already after my first lap in the quad race, I don't think that was even 1.5 miles long. There is no way that could have been scored properly if allowed to continue. I understand the people who were doing well being upset, but that many quads on such a small loop where you have to stop every lap in one lane, no way.  I never saw so much coarse cutting either, heck I may be guilty, it got pretty hard to tell where the coarse was after a while.  To be quite honest though, it did not look to me like that property was large enough to host a wnyoa event in any conditions.  The number of racers showing up to these events now a days is amazing.  The toy haulers, rv's and level of race ready bikes and quads are equally amazing.  What most of us are using to compete at the amateur level would fit right in at the nationals.  I have felt blessed to be able to compete in such a great series, in many ways it feels like a smaller version of the GNCC'S.  It has taken many years for wnyoa to grow to this point, but I feel Arcadia let us down.  Ten or fifteen years ago when 30-35 quads total showed up you might pull off a race on such a small coarse, but to even try with the numbers that show up today was crazy.  I realize that some of the coarse was taken out.  I also realize what it takes to put on one of these events, I know it is not easy.  Well it is easy to come on here and complain and get mad, but that will not do anything to help.  I would hope the organization is able to regroup and continue to promote the level of racing we have come to expect.  I plan to try and work a race this year and offer what I can to help this series continue to grow.  Let's put this one behind us and move on.         Brian S. I feel I need to address the comments about what goes on this forum and what does not.. I have been accused of not posting things unless they are possitive comments and I have been asked why Ray intercepted my emails last year and only sent me what he wanted posted.....and this is NOT TRUE... First of all.. NO ONE can get into MY emails. This is my email address, my password... I have never given out the password for anyone to get into my mail.. No one can intercept my mail, just as no one can get into any of yours...Second.. The only thing that does not go on this forum is negativity towards a particular( as stated above) rider or towards a certain person. This is for your protection as well as ours.. If you have proof ( video) or believe that a certain rider cheated, by cutting the track,or proof ( video) that a certain person did something wrong or out of line, then email Mark or the whole leadership team...and let them handle it.... This weekend several people saw an altercation ....I received several emails about it( which were forwarded to Mark)and all had different stories on what happened. They did not get posted and it should be obvious on why..This is not what this forum is for. ALL emails that I receive either get posted or sent to Mark..( Ray in the past).. You can complain all you want about the weather, promotors, tracks..whatever..but if you send me something negitive about a certain rider, naming that rider...or something negitive towards someone else..naming those people, it will NOT be posted.. Everyone's email and phone numbers are listed under "  contact us".. send it to them...

We need to forward the emails to the WNYOA officers, rider reps and the promotor under Scrutiny - Yes, but is it healthy for the sport if we air our dirty laundry for everyone to read.  This needs to be seriously considered.    Any promotor should be able to send everyone home at his/her call.  That Friday rule stinks and takes common sense out of the hands of the people that busted their butts to provide us an awesome place to camp and ride.  Everyone looses, not one day, but another event, another promotor, another property gone forever so that know one is inconvienced on their day off.  With the internet, weather radar and storm predicitons available, everyone has the option to use a questionable weather weekend for a throw away.  Instead, we force the promotor to roll the dice and we, as a series, will probably lose another quality venue put on by some the hardest working and quality guys in the series.   My sincere gratitude goes out to everyone who makes this series happen!   Sincerely, Mike Johnson  past rider rep, promotor and one who knows all about rain, parking and aggravated participants.
don't even know where to start. The only thing that Arcadia could not control this past weekend was the weather.  From there on everything went down hill.  I hate to talk bad about this club, as many of them I have known for 20 + years.  WHERE WERE THE WORKERS.  The pee-wee track had sections that were impassable.  I don't think there is a parent out there who wasn't pulling bikes out of the mud.  I took it upon myself to re-route a small section so they could continue, this after multiple attempts to get a worker out there to do it themselves.  I never saw a single worker out there, only two gentleman on quads doing absolutely nothing.    Then comes the bike race.  There was more cutting than I have ever seen at a race.  When A-riders are stuck up to their fenders on the first lap, maybe the conditions are too bad to race. Who cares about the cancellation by Friday rule, Arcadia would have earned more respect and less bad press then it they had cancelled the race.  Not to mention that the damage to the land will take years to heal.  There will not be a race at this site for years if ever, not that this is a bad thing.  Our series is too big to hold races at sites like this one.     I really hate to say this but I think all the years of hard work Ray Goulet put in to make this series what it is today is going down the tubes. I have been racing this series since it was the New York State Harescramble Series, and D-4 Enduro series. How many of you rember that?      Lets get all the promoters and leadership together and re-group to hopefully straighten out these issues and set some more realistic, and well defined guidelines to which all promoters must follow, and then enforce them.      Regretfully, Lenny Baltimore  Bike Vet A
I would have to agree with Chris and Ryan, 10 points isn't cool by any means. Give everyone that registered 20 points and call it good, that way at least their efforts for showing up and knowing that it was going to be a muddy mess wouldn't get thrown away at race 11 when WNYOA started throwing races out. But no one can really be mad at WNYOA because either way there would have been complaining when the race was done because if they would have let the race go 1.5 hours, knowing how the track was being ran, everyone would have said "why didn't the race get shut down sooner?" It happens, nothing you can do about the weather. I see it as being like church, we go on Sunday no matter what. We all come together to beat on our bodies and our toys all the same weather you are a C rider on a 1980 machine or a AA on a 2010 machine, we all are here for the same thing, the thrill of racing. I feel the only thing that WNYOA could do is give 20 points to everyone, that way, all of the quad guys are still on the same playing field. I am not a quad rider, but I understand the complaining, a lot of money and time is spent on getting ready for 1.5 hours of your time on Sunday, and you want what is owed to you. Arcadia, for me as a bike rider, I ripped the clutch out of my bike and had to be towed out on the last lap. But I still had a great time, gotta love the mud. And to the land owner, good luck with you bean fields, they got tore up bad. Thanks for a good time. Just get'm cleaned up and ready for Miles Mountain, long season ahead, don't let a few races get ya down. Tony Musto #616 250 C+
WHAT A HOTT MESS is what I thought when I drove two hours to race and saw four feet of mud everywhere, no parking, disorginization, and that was just the beginning..I don't need to recap the race especially the behavior of evone that was there but I waited to the last second not to race hoping the weather would break... no biggie, not mad, we have 14 races...until I heard that if I would of just signed up I could of got 10 points!!! REALLY...I need 10 points too!! I made the drive, spent the ching to get there...I know you can't control mother nature but if I would of known that I would of recieved 10 points just for signing up, I would of and just started drinking earlier!!! pw jr c  Paul Isaac
my problem is with parking at these events. by now wnyoa shoul realize that there are a very large number of vehicles coming to these events. even if the weather was nice for arcadia ,the size of the parking was too small. why don't the leaders of wynoa inspect each track before the race season to make sure there is enough parking and that the driveways have enough gravel { that in the very slight chance it might rain } that vehicles can get out on their own without having to wait for a tractor.  i think that wnyoa should deny some tracks from being able to put on a race without proper parking       jimbo quad c rider

I just wanted to thank and apologize to the gentleman who helped me get my quad unstuck and then I thanked him by running his leg over. I did not mean to but it grabbed and jumped foreword, you handled it very well and I hope to find you at Miles Mountain and apologize in person. Thanks again.   Kyle vet c

I understand that no one can control the weather and that issues may come up, such as the course conditions at Arcadia this year. I can also understand (although disappointed with it) why only the AA class got their money back and everyone only received 10 points. However, with us only receiving 10 points for racing this weekend, the riders that worked this race will now receive 15 more points than ALL OF US, as opposed to only 5 more than the winner of that class. That can be the deciding factor at the end of the year. If we have to be given only 10 points, should the working riders only receive 15? I feel that might make things a little more fair for all of us who went out there and tried to make the best of our day.

I know there is going to be alot of discussion about the Quad race this weekend.. Just wanted to let everyone know that the main reason the Quads were cut short was because there was no way it could have been scored correctly.. There were so many ribbons down and so muddy that riders were going off the track, making their own tracks and doing 5 minute laps.. taking this into consideration...the decission was made to cut the time of the race and to give riders the 10 points..

Concerning the canceling of the race.. If a race is going to be canceled, the decission has to be made on Friday.. The weather was fine until it started raining late Saturday night.. This is New York..Sometimes were told that its going to rain and it doesn't. Other times were told its not going to rain and it does.. Our forcast changes everyday.. sometimes more...

Yesterday was the third race of the 2010 season, and I have noticed that between the promoters, there is no communications.  It all blew out of proportion when someone trying to enforce the rules, and others that should know the rules do not want to abide by them.  The rules are there for a reason, and everyone should abide by them.

I am a step-mother of a quad rider, and we have been going to the races for a few years now.  I would have to say that alot of the issues started with Victory Mountain, and the "Ref" for the day, did not care about anything, and let everything go.  There was alot of course cutting, and not one of the workers for that race would do anything about it.  I over heard the "ref" tell a kid that raced, that the "course cutting was due to the weather, and he could not do anything about it."  My step son told workers about people cutting the course all over, and the workers did not even care about it.  This is not just happening with the quads, it is very big with the bikes also.

Now, my biggest problem.  I think that all riders, when they sign up for the series, should also be signed up to work a race.  After my family and I worked our first race, 2 years ago, we have a lot more respect for the workers, and how hard it is to put on a race.

Yesterday, I witnesses course workers trying their hardest to keep the quads on track.  By doing their jobs, the spectators were mad at them.  The spot were I was standing, I was just after scoring, by the mud pit.
There is also a quad rider that needs to be parked.  At Victory Mountain this person cut the course, and when confronted on it about started to fight, and he did the same at Arcadia.  I do not know his name, but because he was told to turn around and use the trail, and not cut, he told one person he was going to "kick their ass", and got off his machine to do it.  At Victory Mountain it was in the pits, and at Arcadia, it was on the course.

Sorry about this venting, but something needs to be done with the courses.  Maybe, not have so many races in the Ithaca area, so that there will be more workers for each race, instead of spreading the workers so thin because of the amount of races in the area.  Also, the Promoters need to communicate better between them, so the problems form their race do not spill over to the next race, and keep escalating.  Hopefully, the next few races can get togeather, and stop these issues from happening.
Thank-You

I disagree with the decision to give every quad rider 10 points for the Arcadia race. For most of us who actually did go out and race, dispite the conditions, this will be a throw away. Anyone who placed above 6th is losing out on points, such as the Womens Quad class for example. There were only 4 women out there racing, so even the last place woman is losing 4 more points then she should. I'm sure there are other classes who might also have had the same situation. Plus it's just not fair to the people that didn't cut course and busted their butts for a good finish. I know it's very difficult to score this race, however I think the results should be gone through and scored. Those with too fast of lap times should be docked a lap for cutting course. I know this won't eliminate all those who cut but it would eliminate the majority. If this were to be done, even though the results of it might not please everyone, the majority of us would not be losing out on so many points or be considering it a throw away. Also I would also like to mention that I been having to pay $50 to race both bike and quad classes this yr when for the past 3 yrs I was only charged $45. I would like to see us go back to $25 for the first class and $20 for the second.

I would like to know when Obama start running the WNYOA races? June 6th Arcadia Bark Busters was a waste of time, and a waste of money for myself driving 3.5 hours to race for 45 minutes. But was gets me going is the fact that everyone gets 10 points what about the people that gave up after one lap. What about the people that thrive on the points chase we never got a fair shot today. I think we should all get at least 20 points for showing up and dealing with the ridiculous situation that occurred. At least the dirt bikes had a fair shot and they received the points that they deserved and they actually raced today.  I thought it was a great line of b.s. when we were told that" they didn't cancel the race because they have to cancel it before Friday" they do have a channel on TV that gives you a fair warning for whats to come. I'm sure this wont make it on the WNYOA forum because its not in the favor of the standards and positivity of the web site. This e-mail will be also sent out on Face book so people can know the truth . I am sure i am not the only one that feels disappointed with this series.        Ryan Youngs 422 Quad jr. B

The WNYOA is absolutely doing something right.

The tracks are the perfect Hare Scramble tracks. A great variety of terrains.

Arcadia is nearly a 5 hour ride, but I am planning on being there.

Thanks to everyone and keep up the good work!

To Tomy M... I tried to start a small group about 6 years ago that would conduct a little award ceremony for the pee wees and Minis. There was very little interest in both, finding help to conducts these ceremonys and very little interest in riders coming down to it.. By the time the minis are off the track and protest time passed, The big bikes are getting ready to start.. Time, and the number of riders we have now, it would take awhile to call every rider and hand them their plaque....I don't know how they are doing the big bikes this year, but I think Ray had something going for handing out the plaques in previous years.. I'm sure if a few volunteers went to the promotors and asked about conducting it, there would be no complaints

I would like to thank the promotor/organizers of the victory mountain race this past weekend. Overall, the day ran smoothly and went well. Nice job to all involved. I do have one comment that I would like all promotors to take seriously. I understand why the round haybales that were put on certain sections of the grass course to slow down the riders. The intent was good, but when the races get as dusty as they were on Sunday, the haybales should be removed from the course. The dust in itself slows people down to safe race speeds. While It's true that all riders should respect the conditions and slow down when the tracks are as dusty as it was on Sunday, accidents can still happen. Hitting a hay bale in the middle of the course because you cant see it through the dust could be a disaster. I think we should start making it a policy to remove things like this when the conditions get as dusty as it was. Thanks for your time

I don't know what is going on, I don't feel that it has to do with the management of WNYOA, but with the management of the race holders. 2 races in a row now nothing has gone to plan. With Victory Mountain, just like Jeff said, what is the reason for not starting on time? If you can't get on the line in time, don't show up. Not everyone lives in Central New York, some of us drive quite a ways to participate at these events and would love to get in, race, and get out in a timely fashion. At the end of the bike race, no horn was sounded like we were told was going to start happening every race to let everyone know that times were posted. Also, you have 30 minutes, considering that there isn't any protests, to start with the plaques, 1 hour for the C class to get theirs started and then I have never seen plaques handed out in that fashion. I'm sure a lot of people didn't get there plaques because they didn't even realize that they were getting handed out. Guys and girls come out and race their hearts out and then don't even get noticed at the end because we were to just walk up, give our name, get our plaque, and leave. I hope that Arcadia changes the pace of the season, and no one else follows suit from what we have had so far this season. Good luck to everyone! Tony Musto, 250 C+, #616
Our family has been supportive of your sanctioning body for the last 3 years and the start time procedure needs to be altered immediately or you will start losing your fan base and competitiors.  There seems to be a pattern of never starting on time and that is a failure of Management.  Every track is the same,  this tells me that maybe start eveything 1 hour earlier would solve everything.   We ran GNCC the complete schedule in 2009 and the start time is 10am. THE GREEN FLAG DROPS AT 10AM , YOU BETTER BE READY.   Somebody please call me and explain the difficulty of dropping the green flag at 2PM for the QUADS.  I don't want an answer that the BIKES aren't off the track. Someone make a business decision and start the bikes earlier to accomadte the late starts. Is this not possible for some reason, it seems like everyone is there earlier enough?   Is it that hard to go back the last 3 years and see how long the bike races take on an average and adjust accordingly?   Please respond with answers to sykesracing@ tds.net or 315-767-5364   Thank you Jeff
I don't mean to point out the obvious, but all the preparation to get ready for the race season on bike ,body, and finances, then 1 race and 3 weeks off again. I know this was gone over last year and I thought that was resolved, I'm just trying to figure out how races could be scheduled for at least 1 or 2 weeks more during may. Then we wouldn't have to race on memorial day weekend. A few in the race community that I have talked to in the past couple weeks don't understand either and I hope they post something on here also. I know the promoters and land owner have to tend to hay and other farm duties before getting their land ready for a race; however there are many that don't. If anyone has thoughts on this, there are many who would sure appreciate hearing them. Not trying to cause a stir, it was a long winter and I for one, have been ready to race. Thank you   Jim Dempsey #998
I would like to congratulate Samantha Steiner, on representing WNYOA very well this past weekend, at the Moose Mountain Ridge GNCC. She finished 2nd in the very competitive womens class. I have a son that races in the youth atv 70cc class.  I can't say that I was happy with the way that it was run here.  1.7 mile track is to small for these kids, the fast guys are not getting enough track to stay away from all the lappers.  Also I did not see one sweeper on the track, now I know that there are a lot of parents but I have seen the sweepers at other tracks helping the little one out of sticky spots.  And the last thing was the scoring, (Really) how long have we been doing this now that this even happened.  Some families are from far away and need to leave after the race and cant wait for 5 hrs for you guys to get names, numbers, and classes right.  sorry to be blunt but lets see if we can get this fixed the kids deserve it.

I would like to thank the working rider that helped me through my first lap.  I didnt catch his number, i tried finding him after the Quads were done riding.  I am  number 192 womens quad, I am hard of hearing. this was actually my first year.  I had trouble getting though the track, i guess it showed i wasnt ready.  But i really wanted to thank the worker who helped me though, he stayed with me the whole time till i was out and back into the pit.  He helped me for everytime i got stuck, and when my Quad wouldnt start.  If anyone knows his name and email please get back to me, i would like to thank him personally.  I wont be riding much this year, I need more practice till then ill be back when im ready for sure.

Congratulations to the leaders of WNYOA for adding the additional youth quad class. Four years ago Eric Reeves fought hard to bring the beginning of the youth quads and its good to see the results of his hard work. As a direct result to these classes we all need to watch and support Hunter Hart who is on his way to make a strong showing at the GNCC and hopefully back to back titles for WNYOA, himself and all youth atv riders. In these tough times it is great to see everyone's hard work and dedication pay off.

Attention WNYOA Riders/Racers. The previous WNYOA event the "Rapture" has now teamed up with Jason Raines to offer a 2 day School. The School will be on the same location as the WNYOA Hare Scrambles "Rapture" race event was held. There is primitive camping w/o hook-ups included, meals not included. The School weekend is May 22/23. There are many other options for food/lodging within 10-30 minutes of the School depending on your taste. I may even fire up the grill and cook out for the lunch period. I have personally attended one of these Schools and it will make a difference in your riding. I have been riding and racing for 33 years. During the past year my average finishing position was around 15th. And the last 3 races, after the School I placed 12, 10, and 4th. It does work, and you will improve. The Jason Raines riding School will not only improve your riding, but you will go away with an experience of a life time. I am coming back again for the second year. Please feel free to contact me directly, if you have any questions and or concerns about anything. Where to eat, stay, directions and what ever else you can think of. I have a new web site and mind you it is still under construction, so please ignore the place holders on the other pages. The directions and food/lodging info will be placed on the site very soon. My email is RLIsowski@JCS-Racing.Com, and the web page is www.jcs-racing.com. Please check back often as we are adding full blown custom suspension work, parts as well and other race and normal bike services. Also please go to the Jason Raines website at http://www.rainesracing.com/. Information and registration forms can be found on his website. You wont regret it. Rick...

Just wanted to let everyone know that Steve Hatch will be having Riding clinics again this year in our area.Go to Stevehatchracing.com for the details. These are great clinics! We put our daughter in one two years, and her riding improved immediatly! Then joined SHR website and it just continued to improve, and still does. She just won the 2010 winter series womens bike Championship. (at 13 yrs old!)They do fill up fast so reserve early!

I'm a father of two bike riders one seventeen and one fourteen. I have been reading all the forum comments about the fourwheelers starting late, and other concerns of everyone.I beleave wnyoa was been doing a great job, but there is room for improvement as we grow as an organation. We could start buy shortening the length of the big bike course it don't need to be fourteen miles long this would make it quicker to sweep and into more of a spectator sport also. With the ten o-clock curfew maybe we could start the pewee's a little earlier? We could shorten the big bikes to a hour and a half instead of two hours? There is a link to shutterbug on wnyoa photos, they have a poll about having all the races on saturday and sunday. I don't beleave that this a good idea, I have a hard time getting every thing done around home and on the bikes now during the race season. I'm afaid that if wnyoa does this that it would make wnyoa into a sport that will be to expensive for the most of us. Thanks for every thing wnyoa does for us

I don't get involved in the sound testing, but, I do know that there are about as many people( neighbors of the promotors) trying to stop the riders from racing on private land , as  there is members in WNYOA.. Since these people can't stop riding on private property, they can complain about the noise and do something about it..that can and will bring WNYOA to an end....There is always going to be someone out there that doesn't realize or understand the importance of sports, and how it effects our kids lives now and in the future..

R. Jones

This is a answer to Mr. Trode’s post:

Currently there is a group doing research on how our sound testing will be done for 2010, this group consists of me (Greg Calkins - HS Bike Rider Rep) and Bucky Laufersweiler (Father of AA Quad Rider Ian and Inspection Chute Coordinator). The testing that we are looking into is patterned from the AMA  guidelines and will be applied to all machines regardless of whether it has two or four wheels. We discussed this at the operations meeting and the reason we are doing the research/ fact finding now is to come up with a fair, repeatable system that can take variables like grass length etc..into account so we don’t have a mess. The promoters have agreed to provide the support to make this system work at every race and between myself and Bucky we can help regulate the testing to make it is the same for every race. I think with that vote all the promoters understood that excessive sound could negatively affect our sport and we want a well thought out, well administered sound check that can lower our sound footprint. I called FMF and their representative relayed to me that they are starting production on optional 94db inserts for all their products but currently a “quiet core” is available for many of their products and with it meet the 96db requirement. Stock machines should meet the requirement (I could not get any information to verify) but for the most part the machines that are the loudest have a aftermarket system on them. We know that requiring quieter machines adversely effects 4-stroke powered racers and we also recognize that the majority of quads are 4-stroke powered but it is not our intention to target anyone. We are simply reacting to an AMA suggestion to reduce our sound footprint to possibly prevent undue negative attention to our sport… no more…no less.

Thanks for voicing your opinion,

Greg Calkins

Bike HS Rider Rep.

I would have to agree with the previous post from tyson. It gets pretty annoying when the quads start so late, I understand they gotta get the bikes off the track and everything, that’s fine but if you do start us late then give us our full hour and a half of racing. There were to many races last year that were cut short when they shouldn’t have been. people are there to race not to ride for 45 minutes then pack up and go. And the 94 db limit is kinda crazy, I would like to think that the pros that show up to these races have exhausts that quiet, as for example the king ferry race last year with chris borich and blake kramer...I hardly believe their quads passed the test that day, without a little help from the guys doing the sound test anyway.  Be consistent, don’t just fail some people and let others "slide".        Jason Armstrong Quad A

WNYOA riders may want to check this out, Charlie Davis

http://www.amadirectlink.com/news/story.asp?id=1709

so the new 94 db limit your enforcing should be really investigated before implying it as almost half the production dirt bikes off the show room floor don't even come close to 94 db therefore if you read the AMA rules they are pushing it to 2011 if you don't believe me read it for yourself  in the AMA rule book at amadirectlink.com on page 3 of the table of contents under sound testing and  appendix 6.2 or page 162-165 under sound limits and testing procedures. not to mention that there isn't any pipe made aftermarket that reads less than 98 if the sound test is done properly. the other issue is there is not any race that it is done properly at is always a half  >>> attempt to do it. Which brings me to my next question if you are going to enforce the rule are you willing to turn away 80% of your quad and 80% of your bike riders when they dont comply and give them a refund of race entry fees. somehow i bet you dont want that. i understand that and obscenely loud quad or bike is unneccesary but 94 db at 4000rpm is hardly going to quite anything down when at 6000rpm they are up over a 100db , even a pipe that reads 94db.  main point leave it at a resonable level,96-100db in that range, and your riders will be happy, something crazy loud, test and stop taking the fun out of this sport and let us race, there is too many politics in this sport these days. if you peolple dont start listening to your riders this series is going to go down the tube faster than it gained popularity, last but not least, STOP FAVORING ALL THE BIKES, i understand that the majority of promoters and clubs are bike oriented but all race fees are the same for both and we both deserve a quality event, not bike start on time quad 2 hr late crap gets rediculous, sound test (last year) quads only not bike (that promoter knows whom they are) ect....  Nothing against bikes at all but, heck,  if they were in the situation the promoters put the quads in they would feel the same way.                                                                                                         tyson trode

This post is re guarding mountain view trail riders quad course: I'm not sure if anyone complained about this or not, roughly 1/3 or 1/4 way through the first lap I almost had a head on with 2 other quads that started in the 300 class, i believe one of them was 317 (did nothing wrong), because the course was poorly marked as we went almost a mile off the track, after i almost hit them full throttle we got turned around and coming back down to find the arrows all the 600s are coming up at us off track as well, this was very very dangerous I'm not sure who i almost hit but we came to a stop and literally our tires were touching thank god we are both OK! I was on a blue yfz450 I'm not going to make a huge fuss about it because this last race got my 8Th in and i wasn't in a point race this season. But i think it should be known, I'm sure some of you reading this took that same route, if it was just one or two people i could understand maybe us not paying attention, but there was no exaggeration 10-15 quads that i saw alone, in different groups not like we all were in one line following each other. With the last race of the season behind us, just wanted to bid farewell to all of our race friends and wish them a warm, wounderful, and SAFE winter. Also want to thank Ray and Debbie for everything they have done with the series over the years. I do hope our new President and secretary also acknowledge that and keep WNYOA moving forward. So long Ray, So long Debbie Hope to see you both again next year.Enjoy your much deserved time off! We will miss you both! The Williams family.   Carl, Pennie, Gage, and Aubrie #922.
I just wanted to say congratulations to all of the youth quad riders who raced with my son ( Eric Tennant...899 90B) this season was a great challenge for the kids and the parents. EVERYONE who made all of the races this year in truly a SURVIVEOR. We enjoyed the clean racing and the friendships we have gained. See you all at the banquet.   Eric Tennant...899  limited 90B
Paul and I would like to thank all of the people who sent positive commments to Morgan, either through the forum, or in person at this past race.  Your support and praise was so touching to us and to see her smile and her reaction to all of you, still brings tears to my eyes.  She kept asking me all day, "why is everyone being so nice to me?"  She really felt important that day and she raced the whole race without us chasing her.  She was so proud of herself because she raced by herself and she did 4 laps!! I would also like to thank all of the pee wee parents that made a special effort to help all the kids racing.  I saw so many more parents cheering for the kids and helping them out when they needed it.

I would also like to say that the pee wee track this weekend was great.  Mother Nature did hold out and for a change, we had a pretty dry track.  There were plenty of staff out along the track making sure that the kids were making it through. Thank you to all the workers for their hard work.

And thank you to all the WNYOA staff who also gave Morgan thier support and praise.  The front page of the WNYOA website was more than we expected and Morgan thought that was so cool.  (Although she did want to know why her brothers picture wasn't there too, because they were yelling at him too!!!)

So again, thank you to all.

Paul and Vicki Best
Proud parents of Morgan Best Peewee #100
My name is Mike mAresca jr. I race jr mini A and schoolboy. When i worked motomasters this year one of the things i did was help with the pee weeparade lap. I actully beliebe i followed orhan for most of the lap until a lady who may have been her mom stopped her. She fell a couple times . Some of them fairly hard but overall i thought she was a great rider!! Every time i asked her if she was all right and she got back up and kept charging. To me this is a great rider!!!

Also i saw many other riders down and no one was helping them! It wasnt even the race!!it was the parade lap!!!!
It's has been a very rewarding time racing the Pee Wees with Kevin and Nick.  I feel the joy of having a solid performance and feel the pain when any young rider is having a tough day. That's the time that I , as an adult, can have the most impact on a kids day and it should be POSITIVE!!!  We have had the opportunity to meet great families. Our kids have competed with their kids and they have developed great friendships. The Pee Wee ranks are the beginning of family and friends enjoying the weekend and knowing who they can count on.  Unfortunately, I have also witnessed some deplorable behavior from a few ( they know who they are ), so lets not let them take away the energy and excitement we get from these young stars.  Cheer for them, stay involved and stay positive.   I would also like to thank AxePhoto for always remembering the camera.  I usually carry mine, but seldom make time to snap even a quick pic.    Thanks again to all who make this series happen,   Mike and Sherri Johnson
I completely agree with the Pee Wee posts--they are the future of this sport, as are the youth quad riders, and should be treated as such. To Morgan----GREAT JOB AT UNADILLA :) It doesn't matter how old you are, everyone started somewhere. People in this series forget what it was like to be a beginner...this is my second year racing, my third year riding and in that short time, I've learned so much. Keep on riding and soon enough, you'll beat the boys! Look at myself and our other girl riders--we do it every weekend!   On another note, alternating the times for bikes and quads will only lead to more confusion with the series. I understand exactly where everyone is coming from--the GNCC works well with quads going first, WNYOA works with bikes going first...it doesn't matter who goes first, the track is roughest for the last group who goes. Mark Beadle's post is soo true--there were more than one track us quads could NOT fit through because of trees...its these tracks that I talked about in an earlier post that it is OBVIOUS those promoters do not like Quad riders. Ps--Brad Lister, I didn't call promoters out because that's not me, it's not my style. Anyone who has raced the series this year knows what tracks and what promoters do not like quads...just ask around...   Last, I've heard through the grape vines that the rider reps and promoters vote for the next President...I agree that we do not want the new President to be voted in based on popularity. I would ask those that are able to vote to choose somebody, not because they're your friend, but because they have a good solid background in this sport and they are open minded. This series has grown so much and can continue to with the right guidance and the right changes.   Becki Wheeler # 194/# 419 Quad
As a mother of a first year rider I would like to thank all the parents that have helped my son this year. My child races in the peewee 6 class and should be racing in the peewee 4 some of the parents have been so supportive of him!! My child is the one who goes around the track and cant touch the ground and some of the parents are yelling and cheering for him again thank you all. To the parents of Morgan I feel sorry for the comments from some of the parents at the race .I feel ashamed as a adult that some parents would belittle a child on the track who is putting in 100% effort. As a responsible adult and caring parent I sincerely apologize on behave of the spectators whom have poor sportsmanship and who lac the common sense to encourage a child to do their very best and to most of all have FUN!!! Rather they encourage peewee riders too share in their ignorance and poor sportsmanship. How sad, so remember to cheer all the peewee riders not just ours, as you well know they ALL really need to hear our POSITIVE encouragement.     THANK YOU Jamie Waterman peewee rider 103
Just a couple questions and concerns. At Unadilla three of our Pee Wee riders were wrecked by an adult running out in front of them to assist one of his family members that is also a Pee Wee rider. He didn't even look before entering the track. If a child is unable to hold the bike up or needs constant assistance around the track, meaning running and holding the back fender so they don't fall over then maybe there not ready to race. Also scoring at Unadilla for the Pee Wees was a mess. Day riders started in one line and were scored in another line. The whole thing was a mess. If any race needs to be thrown this year it should be this one.  It also states by WNYOA rules " For 2009 a 100 % payback for all Pee Wee riders and all 70cc and 50cc youth quads will recieve an event award with placement tag attached on or given with every award." This was not the case for Unadilla. Most of them recieved medallions' that all said first place. It looked like a box of leftover's. Paying almost triple for them to race an event where thay are not even recognized by GNCC is a little silly. If they are not recognized then it should revert back to WNYOA rules for the Pee Wee riders. Very disapointed with the way thing are looking for the Pee Wee riders latley. You can ask almost all Pro riders how old they were when they started ridding and its anywhere from 3 to 5 years old. Pee Wee riders are the future of our sport and they are not being treated as such. McCutcheon Family pee Wee riders #436 & #360.
I would like to make a few comments about this year as it approaches it's end. First off to young Morgan Best and her parents I would like to say I am sorry that you had to hear those comments from another pee wee parent. Do not let them get too you. Their child and themselves started just like you they have just forgotten that. Although we have seen things in the Pee Wee ranks change, its not a group of parents like it used to be where we all helped one another's kids no matter what. I have see one dad turn his head as my son fell in front of him then tell his son hurry up Ben is down. They were not even racing in the same class!!! There is still some of us that are willing to help any of the kids no matter who they are. To all pee wee parents we all need to realize we are racing for a wooden plaques and a trophy at the end of the year.  Now is the time to teach our kids to respect the land owner, the rules, and each other. That will help grow the series in the future.
This past weekend I set up the pee wee track at Unadilla and worked the pee wee race. I found it very sad that after the race there was beer cans and bottles littered all over the start and finish line area.I think that if you  look in the the AMA rule book in the off road section it clearly states that no rider or anyone associated with the rider should be under the influence of any intoxicants, and the rider is subject to disqualification.  WE CAN ALL BE WITH OUT A BEER FOR 45 Min don't you think?

I would like to thank Mike Delosa ,Lenny Baltimore ,Greg Calkins ,Mike and Jim Bruce ,Kenny Ham ,Mike Johnson, Dean Koser and every one else who helped setup the pee wee track and make last minute changes.
The Last thing I would like to comment on is the election of a new president. I know we would all like a say in that but we must be careful that it does not become a popularity contest or we could back up even faster than we have moved forward. I think we do have a say, tell your rider reps, vice presidents and other WNYOA officials what you think, that is what we elected them for, to be our voice. Thanks The Wrights

Paul and Vickie,

As a rider who's been getting "last place" for 12 years, I am offended by the way people act.    Pee wees are not supposed to be FAST, they are learning.  People who can't ride, or are afraid to try, sit on the sidelines and judge those who are on the course.  There will always be someone who says something negative. How about instead of screaming at your kids, you make sure they have their helmets strapped on.  I saw at least 5 kids racing with the strap hanging at CCR.  Is the trophy worth your kid losing it's head?   Paul, put some pom-poms on Morgan's bike, tell her to be proud, and ride.  She's already WON by getting on the starting line!  Someday, that girl just might be kicking everyone's Bum.   And for all the Parents and spectators who judge, YOU really don't have the right to say anything till you get out of the easy chair, "gear up" and get on a bike.   Nichole C. Barnes

Just a quick comment or two on bikes and quads. I started doing these races about 1990 or so, I have seen a lot of changes through the years good and bad. They had a time when the quads started before the bikes, and also times when one week the quads would start first and the next week the bikes would start first. I think that was fair. Bike riders that think the trail would be bad after the quads run should go out after the bikes run just to see what it looks like, Sometimes it's horrible.   I think it doesn't matter who goes first because the one who rides last has the worst track. But then on the other hand you need to realize we are cross country riders (bike or quad) and we will ride what is set up for us.  At least the bikes can fit through the trails, we have had two tracks this year that the rear tires of my quad hit both sides on the trees trying to fit through. My quad measures 46 inches at the rear, I see in the rules that they are to be a minimum of 52 inches. So feel lucky if the quads go first to widen it for you.  This last weekend the quads went first and there was no problem.   As far as quad riders getting campers to camp .... hello take a look at how many quad riders have campers, tents, pickup trucks with caps or whatever. They are there and camping each and every weekend.   So I would say look at this from both views (bike and quad) and you might think differently about this. I think starting should go back to the every other race as far as who starts first.               Mark Beadle         Quad Senior  A              Rider #365
I would like to bring up 2 situations that occurred this past weekend at the GNCC race with the pee wees.  First, my daughter is not fast, she comes in last every week, but we are so proud of her for trying and getting better each races.  She loves to race and is so proud of herself when she gets her plaque.  She tries so hard out there.  This weekend, my stepson was helping her down a hill that she was having trouble on, and a mother of another pee wee started yelling at him, in front of my daughter and telling them they shouldn't be racing if she can't hold up her own bike.  I had to field the question, "Mommy, do I really suck?"  and "Will they make me stop racing?"

This leads me to the next point.  I spoke with a mother and grandfather of pee wee riders in the SETRA series(?).  Both of them commented on how WNYOA parents showed poor sportsmanship.  When one father was swearing and yelling at his child, I was told that they would be thrown out of their series.  Other parents, were cheering because one of the kids fell down.  This parent asked me, "what kid of person cheers when a child falls down?"  Is this really the way we want our pee wees to behave?  We have only raced the last few races, and I have seen pee wee parents pushing broken bikes through the barrells just to get a few extra points, not helping other kids when they fall or have bike problems, and now, telling other kids that they shouldn't be racing because they are just learning.  What happened to pee wee races being fun for the kids, and for kids to learn the ropes and how to maneuver different tracks.  At Motomasters, I sat with a little girl in the woods, for most of the race, until her father came, because I did not want her to be out there alone, I have helped kids start their bikes when they quit, I have picked up kids who have fallen and it is sad, that at ages 4,5, and 6 parents are more worried about winning than teaching their children good sportsmanship.

My daughter will still race, and she will continue to get better.  My husband and I will still be proud of her no matter how she finishes.  We will explain to her that not everyone is nice in this world, and thank you to Denise Hatch and Lori Smith, for talking to my daughter and telling her that she was not going to be forced to stop racing and that everyone else is proud of her for going out there and trying to do her best every week.

Vicki and Paul Best,
Proud parents of Morgan Best, pee wee #100

hello there i think next yeat that the the quads should start and 11:00 and then let the bikes start at 2:00 and then the year after lets the bikes go first and let the quads go 2nd thanks

Bryan Tennant

I'd like to thank the folks at motomasters for putting on what my son and I thought was a great race.               The few things that didn't go perfectly were outshined by all that went well.  Thanks Motomasters !      Next subject.... president nominations.          We need to be VERY careful with our choice for your next leader/leaders.  This group has grown incredibly since I starting racing in '03, and I don't think it's been any kind of accident or stroke of luck.  Many people [ including me ) have at times seriously disagreed with decisions made by our leaders.... only to see most of the time they KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING, and had the guts to do it.   A popularity contest would not be the best way to choose our next president.        We have something like 1000 riders now....  honestly, most having no idea who would be our best leader.   I am NOT a person with a vote in this at this time, and feel that people with the most knowledge of the requirements of the job be who chooses.      As with all of these posts.....  only one rider's opinion.   Bob Failmezger Sr A bike ...     #413
We arrived early Saturday morning to MotoMasters in order to get a good camping/parking spot. All day Saturday and most of the day Sunday I seen "workers" riding without helmets, riding double..not even on the seats of the quads, but on the utility racks! We have rules to keep people safe in this series, new track or old track--we must enforce them. As for the track, I thought it was a good mix, definitely something different for us riders and it gave the fans something more to watch! But, I am going to complain about the numerous stumps and rocks in the middle of the track that should have been taken care of. I understand these things contribute to woods racing, but when we see numerous riders on the sides with broken A-Arms, Rims, Nerfs, etc. because of these, there's something wrong...especially when riders from all classes AA to Vet C are complaining. Other than that, I had a blast! Wish I hadn't gotten a nerf bar/foot peg smashed back into my tire so I could have done more laps. On another note...slower riders, PLEASE move when a faster rider is behind you..even if we are WOMEN! We're only going to be just so nice before we move you ourselves....I speak for all of us girls on this one. Last...I agree with everyone else who has spoke out about riders voting for the next President. Ray has done a great job with getting this series where we are today---we need to keep the momentum going. Just as we vote for Rider Reps, we should be able to vote for Officers, President, etc. etc.   Becki Wheeler # 194/# 419 Quad
Firstly, I feel compelled to comment on the lack of attention to rule enforcement concerning those who set up a track and then race said track directly after you’ve helped set up. Moto Masters knows who worked on the track and then raced, I have no need to name names. It is unfair to those of us who did not know the track by heart. If promoters are unwilling to follow the rules why should other riders have to? Which leads me to my next complaint…
Second, being unable to adequately warm up your bike before a race…. Which DOES entail riding your bike! If the promoters do not wish to have riders warming up in non-designated areas then perhaps they should make DESIGNATED warm up areas.
Third, I am a hare scramble rider for a reason. If I wanted to ride motocross again, I would do that. I switched to hare scramble because I wanted to ride in the woods.

There have been alot of Fun races this year, But for a 1st time event and new to our series I have to say that my Grandson and I had the best time racing your HS event, I am not a Motocross track racer(cant jump..lol) so when We got there and see all the arrows on the motocross track I said oh boy...I even joked to the Grandson by pointing to the double uphill jump and said to him...see that, that is where my race will end today...u gonna want to get the Axehoot guy right there, he aint gonna want to miss a shot..lol   But I gotta reaally say...between the mix of woods and grass track and the motocross track...I had the BEST time..Grandson kept asking me if I seen the air he was getting(I photo him while racing)lol...I said I did too see it Adam..so him and I would like to say Great Job MotoMasters...and welcome to the world of HS racing..

I was wondering does the wnyoa have a set of by laws that pertains to the election of officers?I was president of our fire company for 5 yrs .We had a set of by-laws that pertained to to how elections were run .I think it is only right. We are members we pay for the privilege to race.I think it is only right that the membership have say in who is going to be president.I know I'm opening a can of worms but right is right . Who ever is elected has the opportunity to move the organization to the next level or putting in in the toilet.. Rick Vonderchek 981 SR C
Iwould like to give a BIG THANK YOU to everyone  that helped my son Robby Sill JR  889 youth quad  when  he flipped his quad in the begining  and to those couple of other youth quad fathers that helped my husband get Robby's quad to the finish line on the last lap when the swingarm broke at the end!!! Thank you again and its good to know we have a good and helping  WNYOA race family. Kelly and Rob Sill Sr  vet C 809  limited B youth quad 889!!!
Knobby Acres was what I thought a good race for me, but apparently not so good for my quad! Along with several battle scares, I noticed that my some what new skid plate never made it to the finish line with me.  That will teach me not to double check all the bolts before a race!  If anyone did find a Pro Armor skid plate please contact me at rweber4@rochester.rr.com, or if you can just bring it to Moto Masters, or Unadilla, I would greatly appreciate it.
LOST...New set Scott Black Goggles with roll-offs at Knobby Acres...Bike Class...throw at the barrells...guys said a woman picked up....appreciate you picking them up for me....if you would please just drop them off at registration at the Moto Master race this week-end...would appreciate it.   Colton Anderson Rider #188

I agree with Bucky about the Dead Engine Start.. If your not doing it.. YOUR CHEATING!!  If you cut the track.. YOUR CHEATING!! If you sign up for a class that you, your spouse or child is not eligible for.... YOUR CHEATING!!  If your a cheater.. then you should be kicked out..no matter WHO  you are..   And your only cheating yourself when you go through sound tech and are told to " Go stuff tape, rubber, etc in your pipe and come back.." and then they pull it out on the start line.. Why waste everyones time... The towns are complaining about the noise.. Keep it up and there will not be any more races to complain about!! The sound tech is there for a reason..Just like the rules...

Are we racing motocross or hare scrambles, the way those AA electric start quads are acting you would think it was a moto, (you know who you are) why not put a gate up. Do we need to put marshalls behind you guys? You are the ones that are supposed to set the example for our young riders. You are also fast enough to play by the rules.  Please don't tell me you are teathering the engine, a dead engine is a dead engine!!  Bucky Laufersweiler, Tech Inspection. Get ready for protests!
This is my Family's first year with WNYOA and we have made all events. We are up to 3 riders now and traveling to and from each and every event is expensive, the weather has been brutal, Keeping up with maintenance on 3 machines, and keeping hopes up on two young riders is next to impossible. BUT we are racers, and that is what we do. I will accept what ever WNYOA throws at us. For those who think the schedule is too much i say find a new hobby, or be a part time rider. We have 21 weeks to complete 15 races in this current years schedule. To me that means 6 off weeks for whatever else we can do. My reccomendation is keep it the same. We learn to adapt and overcome, make it work! I would also like to comment on youth quad racing. I would like to see the youth quad track bigger. River Rats track was so fast kids completed 11 laps. Not a good transition for 12 year old riders who will run an 8+ mile track there following year. This past weekend at Knobby Acres we adjusted the track to account for muddy conditions to ease the pee wee riders, but put it back for youth quad. We can move tapes after PeeWee race to make youth quad a longer track! Lattimer Family
I recently found out that our new WNYOA president was going to be voted in by officers only.  Shouldn't we as riders be able to vote on this?  Why not have a ballot at the banquet and allow all riders pee wee to AA, bike and quad riders to vote on the person who they would like see get the position.  Don't you all agree???  Dan Conway VetA
I am a new rider this season at WNYOA. I wanted to comment on the post from Becki Wheeler #194 Quad Women. I have noticed ill feelings toward quad riders at certain times and I've never understood why. Becki's post has put into perspective. That being said, to make a statement like this on your post without saying who these promotors are doesn't make it fair to WNYOA, the riders who would NOT wish to attend the race put on by these promoters, and the promotors who do put on a great race and enjoy all the riders no matter what they ride.  If a promotor doesn't like quads on his land, I for one would not ride his or her race next year.  Brad Lister #828
I have several ideas I think are valid concerns that should be considered by all racers, spectators, promoters, and organizers.  First on the issue of safety I constantly see riders not wearing goggles.  At the Jasper event last year my close friend nearly lost his eye after taking off his goggles due to the mud being so bad.  He was hit under the right eye with a tree branch.  The surgeries and rehab to repair his face were extensive and painful to say the least.  As someone who has always been very safety conscious I assure you he never expected this to happen so I ask everyone reading this post whether racer or parent PLEASE do what ever it takes to keep goggles on at all times.  If anyone has any doubt about wearing them please find Drew Peters rider 101 quad A and ask him to show you the pictures of the injury.  Next there are constantly spectators too close to the track at the start of all races and running across the track at all points during the event.  Putting themselves and racers in danger.  They need to be much more careful.  At the start people need to stay back a safer distance.  You will still be able to see well and not take the risk of getting run over.  Any one who attended Victory Hill knows what I mean.   The next topic is rider courtesy, we all have good days and bad but we should all have enough respect to not ruin another racers chance to compete and get as good a finish as possible.   If a rider is attempting to pass you whether in your class or not find a safe place to move over and allow them the opportunity to pass and hopefully they will show you the same courtesy another time.   The next matter concerns property owners, promoters, and WYNOA.  Clearly anyone who has been involved in racing in our series can attest to the fact this has been the WORST season with regard to weather we have ever seen.  We are all aware how much work and investment goes into the preparation of any race on the schedule.   But I'm sure know one would disagree there were several events this year that should have been cancelled and rescheduled.   If the schedule were revised and two to three rain dates were factored in it would allow everyone involved to participate in far better set of circumstances.  As far as the schedule itself I hate to see any one have a race date taken away but given the present schedule and the number of races one after another it becomes nearly impossible to be prepared for the following week and financially I'm sure it is a huge strain on many racers their families and people involved in putting on the races.   If the schedule were scaled back to 12 events and the best 8 or 9 races still count toward year end points it would allow more time in between events and keep moral much higher among all involved.  Also I wonder if the WNYOA might consider offering riders the opportunity to sign up in advance of the event.  For some riders who are traveling long distances and the many who work Saturday before the race this could relieve allot of pressure, shorten lines at the events and maybe allow some more sleep the night before.   I'm sure there are hundred more things I could add but I think these afore mentioned items are the most valid.  Good luck to everyone and lets all enjoy the remainder of the season.  Sean Coyne/Conner Coyne rider 353 pee wee
This years schedule has just too many consecutive weeks without a break.   Spending the weekend with family and friends is a great experience, certainly priceless for our family.  However, this summer is now a blur of packing, cleaning, random yard work, bike/quad repairs and last minute tweaks and did I point out the effort to get parts.   We need some breaks to allow time to get parts, fix-up machines and most importantly spend time with our kids doing other activities.   Yes its easy to say we can just skip a race but with multiple people racing it complicates things.  Each need 10 races but we have the occasional break down (0 points).  That coupled with races they aren't happy with, we chew up the spares without skipping.   Life is about balance and we seem to have lost it with this schedule.   I like the suggestion Carl made:   "If we start first week in May have two races on and a week off that would bring the current 15 race schedule into the first week in October. And that's still leaving two weeks off In the beginning of July to include the July 4th holiday.  Leaving a rain date on the 2nd weekend of October if need be.With this schedule at least there is light at the end of the tunnel.....".      Rick Ford (#3, #832, #666)
As an avid racer who competes every race weekend, I completely agree with Chris Cobb on his entire post! To start, the track workers must actually work. It's not fair for them to get points and not know anything about the track. When I worked the Dream Riders race, I had to be there at least a weekend or two before the race and both the Saturday and Sunday of the race. I learned the track inside and out so I could answer any questions. I feel like I EARNED those 25 points, they weren't just given to me. Second, this season has been difficult for everyone, not just some. I agree that 5 races in a row makes life in general tough. Because my husband (Nick) and I both race, it basically means we have no life but racing, as the weeknights are completely devoted to working/prepping quads. I think 3 in a row, at the most, is feasible, if we want to continue to run 15 events. I don't mind the 15 events, as I love to race, as do other racers-the current format just needs some tuning. Running the series a little longer or starting a little earlier might help... On another note, as a quad rider, I know that there are some promoters that absolutely hate us. With that said, there are other promoters that understand that quad riders are an important part of this series. WNYOA is a huge family. I don't come to the track just to race, I come to watch my friends and family that race in the PeeWees, Minis, Youth Quads and Bikes too. Racing this series is not just a hobby to many of us, it's a way of life. It's what we do--we work, eat, sleep, train and race. I'm not going to call promoters out on here who are known to hate quads, but I would simply ask them to look at the following---Pro riders from the GNCC races have came to more quad races than bike races this season. To the one or two bike pro riders that have showed, the quads have had at least 7, and they've been to more than one race. Do n't you feel that this is helping to bring more publicity and people to our series? Isn't that the goal--to put on a great race, with great competition for fans to watch? Also, if there were no quads (youth included) racing, how many spectators/fans do you think you'd lose due to quads going elsewhere? If quads were cut out completely, do you think that bike riders would stay? As I said before, we are a FAMILY...we do this TOGETHER. Perfect example--Last weekend at River Rats Nick blew his motor on the second lap and had to wait to be towed out after the race. I had issues myself with my quad and was one of the last out of the woods. I waited over an hour for him to return after I got back. Eventually he was towed out by a truck after I had been told all riders were out of the woods by multiple track workers. All of our bike friends waited until he returned before leaving even though it meant that they would be getting home much later.Again--we're all part of the WNYOA family. I would think the new President and other WNYOA officials would want to do everything to keep promoting the series--to keep it growing, to keep it around for future generations to enjoy. You can't do this while eliminating certain race classes...Just my thoughts. Other quad riders--please, speak your minds! Without racers posting opinions, how can we help mold the series into the best it could be?!    Becki Wheeler #194 Quad Women/#419 Quad Junior B
I am a mom of a mini and peewee rider. We are new to the series, this is our second year. I disagree with having some races on Saturdays. I have to work weekends and it is hard enough to sundays off, there would be no way I could get both days off. Having everything in one day works. It is a long day especially for the quad riders, but if times got changed to different days . i know two riders that woould not be able to ride next year. Why can't things just get left alone. You will never be able to please everyone, no matter what you change.   Doniell Park mom of Cod#357 and Nicholas#532
As a long time rider of the series, I would like discussion and rider input on -
  • Having a year end award option of "2 race entry vouchers" to the rider for the following season, redeemable at any event.  (easily accomplished)-ask me
  • See a much smaller, nicer award (like the enduro and top rider awards were) that can be displayed on the wall or bookshelf for long term enjoyment.
  • The races spaced out while the kids are still in school trying to focus on final examines, solid racing in the summer and then spaced out in the fall when the kids are trying to get back into the school routine.
  • Make more races count, it is a series.
And always remember,  thank the many volunteers that make this happen!    Thankyou for this opportunity, - Mike Johnson  Sen A Bike
I would like to see if we could run the mini's and maybe mini quads on sat afternoon.  That way we could start bikes earlier and the quads might be able to actually leave a track before 6pm.  Or perhaps we could switch it up and allow the quads to run first.  Or run all of the mini races at the end of the day. Dan Conway VetA
In a perfect race world:   12 races taking your top 10 scores.  8 races to receive year end award.  They start in May and end in October...are scheduled roughly every other weekend with the occasional 2 in a row when necessary.    I feel that the promoters would benefit from a schedule close to this because racers would have the time and money to get their machines back together for the upcoming race.  (I would like to hear some input from the promoters as well.)   This may help those wishing to compete in GNCC races and/or enduros.   I think WNYOA is a great series and I understand how much work is involved by all parties .  I will continue to make as many races as possible but the current format is hard to keep up with.   Thanks for taking the time, The Bowdens
A big thanks to all that attended our August 16 Enduro.  I would like to extend a huge THANKS to all of our club members, fellow WNYOA members and the many, many volunteers  that we need and depend on to make this event a success year after year and thanks to everyone in WNYOA for keeping this sport alive.   Some newly added sections and the weather added to the overall challenge that make the Speedsville Enduro what it is, an enduro.  The results and an unclaimed plaque page can be viewed on our web site at  www.ithacadirtriders.com  .   We will add another page in a few days that will include unclaimed plaques from our  Hare Scramble, so that you will have a final chance to make arraignment to retrieve your unclaimed plaque, so keep checking.  Also if you rode our Enduro, go to the event evaluation page and try that out (Speedsville Enduro Riders Only)  Charlie Davis, IDR President.
I believe that  the race schedule being as it is this year not only makes it difficult to remain enthused but also very tiring to get equipment cleaned, repaired and ready to race every weekend. It also becomes much more expensive getting parts next day or second day delivered. I know one can pick and choose which 10 races they do but if one wants to compete for the best possible year end result, they must attend every race. This has been my families 8th year participating in Wnyoa, and also the most difficult one to schedule other things. I would suggest that the people who schedule the summer races look at either every other week, or two weeks on and one week off.  Maybe instead of having enduros and harescrambles on the same weekends, alternate them so that one can choose one or the other to attend, or both for the people who like to race every week.   Before a decision is made, I think Wnyoa should get as much input as possible from the racers,  the racers families, as well as the promoters.     On another subject, I think anyone that is working a race for points should have to ride the whole track so that they can answer questions about the track. Too many times this summer I've asked workers basic track questions and been told "I don't know". ( Some basic questions:  Where is the start? How many miles is the track? Does the track cross the road? Where are the barrels? these are some of the questions track workers didn't kno w the answers to.)  I even had a fellow who was the track referee tell me where the race course was so that I could choose a pit stop location. I had to scramble to find another spot because the racers didn't go by where he said they do. I believe that working a race for points is more than just getting points but also a job with responsibilities and should be taken seriously. Chris Cobb father of #17 and #912

I also have somewhat of a hard time with so many races in a row...and I don,t even race..but we also have to remember that we live in NY.. Our summer season is short. I remember a few years back when we did have a race or two into October and we all froze to death. We have 14-15 races per season but only the best 10 are counted towards the Year End Points. Just because there are 15 races doesn't mean you have to race them all. I'm sure that almost every rider has a race or two that they don't like racing for one reason or another. Other plans, vacations, etc, can be made during those weeks..Then there are the guys that live all winter just to race all summer..even if they were all back to back..... Promotors should be commenting on this also..Are they willing to give up their dates to move into October ?

No matter what, you'll never be able to please everyone.. Don't change what works...

First I want to thank Greg for opening this discussion up on the forum. I also have heard several people complain about this years schedule. Our family is in its eighth year with WNYOA And we , like everyone else are blessed to be with family and friends on race weekends. But I will be the first to say that 4 or 5 races in a row not only makes it difficult to plan vacations, family reunions, ect... It also is hard on the riders the riders families and equipment, bikes , vehicles and haulers, trying to find parts( in time), when something breaks, finding time to get them on, I know so many riders that are competing this year not fully recovered from injuries just because there is no time to properly heal.I could go on, but I am sure our race week schedule isn't that much different than anyone elses. So here is my suggestion. If we start first week in May have two races on and a week off that would bring the current 15 race schedlue into the fist week in October. And thats still leaving two weeks off In the beginig of July to include the july 4th holiday.  Leaving a rain date on the 2nd weekend of October if need be.With this schedule at least there is light at the end of the tunnel......leaving time and money available for repairs every couple of weeks as well as time for scheduling vacations and Work around the house, and fishing ect...... Carl Williams - Aubrie #922

Many of you have mentioned to me that when the events are jammed into a 5 to 6 event string it is hard to schedule anything but racing in the summer months (I.E. family picnics, vacations etc…). I would like to start an open line of discussion that focuses on this issue. Below are some beginning issues that I think are relevant:

1.       What schedule would we ideally like to see, for example: 3 weeks on and 1 week off (just an example)

2.       How we could accomplish this with help from the promoters. My first thought is if we support events late into the season as we do in the beginning it may give promoters incentive to have a late September or early October events spreading out the season more evenly(My idea only).

3.       Lets discuss setting a maximum number of events. How many events can we fit into our summer and still have some time for other important things?

Again, this is a discussion only and there none of these examples or ideas will be incorporated unless discusses & voted on. Please note: It may seem that in our series that the regular “Joe Rider” doesn’t have a say in the way the rules/ schedule/ business of WNYOA are formed/reformed, the voice of the riders can be heard and accounted for on this forum. There are many people with good ideas out there let’s hear them!

Would it be possible to allow the quad Vet A to start in front of the A class?  We have a very small class.   Its getting kind of ridiculous with all of the bottle necks and beating and banging that's going on to get around them.  Its also kind of insane that we get 3 miles into the 1st lap and the Vet A, senior A,  and B classes are being held up by A riders.  Dan Conway Vet A
On behalf of my daughter Aubrie Williams #922 I want to thank everyone for stopping to check on her and especially the rider that stopped initially and gave her his camel back and sat with her until other people showed up. She doesn't remember much due to a concusion. We want to replace your camel back( we do not know what happened to it) and Thank you in person please get ahold of us at the next race. And thanks to Pat Lord and whoever else sat with her until she got to The EMT's. A thorough check at the hospital revealed a concusion and she is pretty sore, But will recover, and looks forward to seeing everyone at River Rats. We Also want to thank The Jordans and Thurstons for packing up our camper and getting it Home. On a not so important note When I heard she was hurt I went looking for her and left my montain bike on the hill side of the start area it is crome with racing stickers and a small FLY crossbar pad, If anyone has any information please give me a call 607-727-9670. Again thanks to everyone! Carl and Pennie Williams parents of #922 Aubrie.
i think with the large amount of money the promoters are bringing in, that they should be able to improve their driveways so that we dont have to have tractors running all day to pull us out .be more prepared for the all week rain before an event. also put more effort into track changes , it gets a little tiring of riding the same exact track year after year.  thanks jimmy ray  quad c

Lost 2gal gas can labeled "Johnson".We forgot our gas can at the Pee Wee track on Sunday at Cayuaga County.  It was a red 2gal with the nozzle cut and clear hose installed. It had a plastic bottle for a cap.  Our name was on the can in black sharpie.   If you happen pick it up for us, we will be at Thunder Ridge and would love to get it back.   Thank you, Mike, Sherri and Kevin Johnson

At this past race (Cayuga County) I seemed to have left my helmet at the track. It is a flat black HJC, Medium. My #499 sticker should still be on the left cheek of the helmet. If anyone has any information please contact me at (607) 206-9904. Thank you

I raced Vet B class yesterday (7/19/09) KTM bike number 24, day number 269. I was having a difficult day on my new 300 and was surviving in around 9th place. On one of the downhills I struck a tree and was thrown over the bars and landed approx. 10 feet down the hill on my right side. I just want to extend my gratitude to all of the many riders who stopped and showed their concern for my condition, to all the track workers who responded swiftly and helped my wife load the truck along with ambulance crew. I would also like to thank the property owner for securing my bike until my wife could recover it. So after 5 hours in the hosiptal and a broken collar bone....I guess my season is over now. Once again thank everyone for all your help.

Attention all WNYOA riders, there are thieves among us. At SDR this last weekend, sometime between 11:00pm Saturday and 7:00am Sunday, someone stole the KTM frame guards off my son dirt bike. As I went around and asked people if they knew or heard anything I found out that over the last few races there have been Tires stolen, boots stolen, and gas caps stolen. This is not a good thing for WNYOA. Everyone that ever asks us about our racing I have always said how friendly and helpful people are. What I really can't believe and I hope is not true,is that a fellow rider would do this to my son. I know that WNYOA and the promoters can not police everything all the time, but maybe we can all help each other to stop this. If anyone has any information about who stole a pair of Orange with Black frames guards please contact me at thomasc@oacsd.org or one of our officers.  Thanks Curt Thomas Upset Dad of Anthony Thomas #70 125 A Rider
I left a orange KTM gas can @ the starting area @ the Elkland race i would love not to have to buy another one. On behalf of everyone in Arcadia Bark Busters I'd first like to start by thanking everyone that came out to participate in our event. I would also like to thank everyone that helped us out with everything. We were fortunate enough that mother nature cooperated again this year and I hope everyone had a good time.   I also want to apologize to WNYOA members and their families and all that attended our event. We did have an issue with the land owner and the people, well one person, he gave permission to be there, not so much an issue with the land owner himself but one kid he allowed to ride his land. Seems the kid does not understand rules nor does he care, but we were on top of the situation the best we could but the kid was beyond listening and had no respect for anyone or anything...great parenting. Either way there was an incident in which the said kid raced through our pits and we are extremely sorry for that and we did what we could to put an end to it. He was also seen numerous times riding a quad around with no helmet, he was told and it came to the point he was asked to leave.   Again we are sorry for that incident and we did take the matter up with the land owner. I do know the kid is NOT part of WNYOA.   Either way, I hope everyone enjoyed the race, and the course and thanks again for attending.     Jerry Bulman Arcadia Bark Busters RACESHOTZ www.raceshotzphoto.com
I want to first try and explain how sorry I am for the accident that happened this weekend. It was a complete mishap on my part. I don’t blame the promoters or fans at all. I also want to apologize to the girl and her friends/family. I did initially stop to see if the girl was okay and some fans said to go. I feel extremely terrible and I wish the girl the best. Please, if anyone knows how she is making out let me know. Again I am very sorry.  Nate Thomas #30
WNYOA has rules for a reason, and it never seems to amaze me how often people refuse to follow them. I have a large family, and we all enjoy participating in WNYOA events, I have been doing so for 23 years, but we are seriously considering going elsewhere to race. I am not trying to point out this weekends race, but it is every race that these rules are broken. After reporting both a bike rider and a quad rider this weekend for pit racing they were still there and racing. The first time one of my children gets hit by a bike or quad racing thru the pits, there will be trouble. I am not trying to threaten anyone, but I am really dissapointed and I demand WNYOA do something about it. Plain and simple, if you are cought pit racing and someone turns your number in, you are done for at least that weekend.............(see rule below) It would be nice for the promoters to have a area set aside for riders to "warm up or check jetting". Allow riders to travel to these areas in first gear and then do their racing around.

As for the loud partying until almost 2:00am this weekend, I think it is time to govern that more as well. Again WNYOA has rules against this too(see rule below). Why is it that these rules can't be inforced?

I hate to blame the promoters, but it is their responsibility to enforce these rules. It seems no one wants to be the bad guy. Who cares if you loose 5,10, or 25 riders. With the turn out WNYOA is seeing these days, lets weed out the sour apples so everyone can enjoy thier weekend a little more.

2009 Curfew and generator placement....

A 10:00 PM quiet time curfew will be enforced at all WNYOA events for loud music, partying, howling, and loud noises. All generators will be turned off by 10:00pm on Saturday night and will not be turned on before 7:00am on Sunday morning. Starting in 2009, all portable generators are to be located at the living area entrance side. It is the promoting club responsibility to check the pit areas and to enforce the 10:00pm curfew. The promoting club referee, WNYOA referee, promoter or any of the WNYOA officers has the right to disqualify all persons involved in the violation of this ruling. In addition, the WNYOA referee has the right to suspend persons from participation in future WNYOA events. Each promoter will post a sign at the event registration area naming a contact person for all/any emergencies that arise.

f) Pit riding/racing will absolutely not be tolerated. Riders and their families, in addition to all spectators, are in the same area. Any rider allowing another person to violate these rules will also be disqualified. Riders will only be allowed to ride in 1st gear when traveling to and from their pit area and must be wearing a helmet at all times. In addition, there will be no passengers allowed on any motorcycle or quad. Each promoter may provide a specified area for warm up or jetting.

g) Any infractions of these rules will be subject to:

i. First offense, Disqualification for the day.

ii. Second offense, he/she will be suspended from the WNYOA series for 1 year.

Could you use entry fee for 2 races for 2010 Season??  We need to start the ball rolling now!
  • How about getting Race Bucks at the end of the year if you really don't have a place for that big trophy.
  •  Ask WNYOA to give an option to chose between a large trophy or the equivalent amount in rider bucks. - 2  race entry fee vouchers to be used at any track for the next season.  These race vouchers would be redeemable at any track and used as partial payment back to WNYOA  after the promoter completes his paperwork and sends in the payment
WNYOA will have the same net cost and revenue and the race bucks may make it easier for that rider to get to few more races in the coming season.  If you like this, tell WNYOA your thoughts!   Mike Johnson  #449 SrA call me if you want more details 716-439-0664

I was wondering what people thought of splitting up
the C  classes from the the B and A classes .I am a senior Crider and its almost 20 Min's till we get off the
line. The other thing thing is I get tired of the B and A riders justrunning in to me to get me out the way in single track
wherethere is no way to get out of there way.One AA rider could have killed me he hit me in single track I went over a bank that was steep. It took 2 spectators to get bike out of there luckily I didn't fall farther or probably wouldn't
be here today. It is not entirely there fault. They are faster  and that's what it comes down to.I would like the
chance to get better but were into the 1st lap and here theycome the AA and the As.We need our own race. Also this would
cut down so many people on course at the same time. This is just something I like some other comments on

Rick Vonderchek Sr C 981

I would also like people comments on advancement during the year.In my class we had a rider win 8 races that's not right he clearly didn't belong in the class lap times should be looked at more closely .There should be automatic advancement if you win 4 races that's my opinion to bad if if you don't qualify for the year end awards this might stop some of the sandbagging in the first place. You can contact me at chuck979@hotmail.com or call me at 607-592-5138.  BY THE WAY if any of you bike riders still feel the need for speed, there is a Hare Scramble Nov. 9, in Westfield MA. from the Ithaca area it is about 4 hours away. It is a NETRA event put on by the Knox trail riders, they are the club that I belong to in New England. I do believe that our transponders will work for an NETRA event. If anyone is interested you can go on there web site www.knoxtrailriders.org to get information. Just a reminder get your banquet reservations in ASAP. I would like to thank everyone for allowing me to represent them as Bike Rider Rep. for this past season, and would again ask for your trust in allowing me to represent all of you again in 2009. Again if anyone has any questions or comments feel free to contact me. AGAIN THANK YOU  CHUCK REED BIKE RIDER REP. SENIOR B #879

First, we would like the family of Darrin to know we continue to think about him, keeping him in our thoughts and prayers, and hope to see him back next year.  We are very interested to know how he is doing.  I myself have two sons who race and the concern that most riders show to their fellow racers is why we have not missed a single race since we started.  At our very first race after two laps of the leaders in the mini race, my son didn’t come around.  This was his very first race and it was pretty easy to tell I was getting pretty worried.  Then the leader of the mini race, Jacob Kneebone, while leading the race, and who I had only spoken a few words to at the starting line, was kind enough to stop in the middle of his race and let me know that my son had crashed in the woods, but he was OK, he just couldn’t get his bike restarted.  We have not forgotten that day, and to the Kneebone family, you should be very proud of your son.  Now on to the remarks made by Jim Heffron.   Although I understand many of the comments made by riders and their parents, there is no way that everyone will be happy with every rule.  That said, I have to agree with Jim’s perspective that we all know the rules and should not try to make a rider feel less than proud for winning a championship where everyone has the exact same rules and opportunities to race and work.  Jim, you really said it well!  The reason we have an opportunity to race is because of all the hard work put in by many people.  Personally I think if more people would work at least one race each year, there would be a lot less complaining about the track conditions and those people who do most of the complaining would have a much better appreciation of how hard it is to build a great race course.   Also, without the 5 extra points for an incentive, there would be fewer workers and some of the races might not be possible.  So thank you to the promoters, and thank you to every single person, rider or not, who helped make this a great year of racing!

Cheers and I hope to see everyone at the banquet,

Rich Albrecht 937 Bikes, Billi Jo Albrecht 186 Quads, Allen Albrecht 390 Quads, Jacob Albrecht 369 minis, and Jordan Albrecht 526 Pee Wee’s

I think some people don't understand how the forum works. Everyone has the right to post on the forum regarding THEIR own opinion's on racing. I have not seen any post that has stepped out of line, they wouldn't be posted anyway. If you don't want to read comments made by parent's, riders, etc then the forum is not for you. Everyone is going to have different opinion that you may or may not agree with.

When it comes to "crying" about the rules, it was done a long time ago, by the people that couldn't handle only having 2 throw aways. If that "crying" wouldn't have been done, then the season would have come out a lot different for a lot of people, including me. Your right, my point winner did have the perfect 10 races, but if it would have been 14 counted, and I got beat, no complaints from me. That's how I wanted to get beat if it was to happen. If you can't make it to all of the races, fine, but for us that can, let us race for everything, not for just what the part-time racers can run for. I am a full time college student, along with having a full time job and being a full time parent, and I still show up to support the WNYOA series every weekend. If you can't make it every weekend, it is what it is, but like I said, let us race for it all. When it comes to sponsors, I am just a C rider but I managed to grab 18 of them, and it sucks to tell them that I had the point lead until races started getting taken away. But it is what it is and congrats to everyone for a good year. I would like to say great season to: Ben Bouwens #23, Sam Runeare #812, William Rypkema #827, Kyle Trantham #757, Nathan Couse #711, and the crew from home: Aaron Lewis #617, Keith Sproule #717, Jack Lewis #984, and Josh Bellow #444 Junior B Champion, Show the A's how to ride next year Josh!!!!!

I am sorry to see that the end of the season has come and suddenly we have a lot of people upset that their end of year position was hurt because they didn't work an event and someone else did, or that because there were throwaways, and someone else put together 10 better races instead of racing every single weekend, they got beat.  I read how it's poor sportsmanship and that these people should be ashamed to have gotten a better position this way.    All I can say is that the rules were pretty clearly outlined right from the beginning of the year, there were discussions about them on this forum and at promoter meetings.  If you didn't do the math and understand that a gauranteed 25 points for working an event was going to be more than the max of 20 points you could have possibly earned for racing it, provided you got first, that's not anyone else's fault but yours.  Everyone talks about how great it is that promoters work to put these events on, when the promoters by and large are merely groups of rider/racers.  If there aren't enough track workers, and almost any course can have that trouble if the weather is bad enough, the promoter gets slammed on the forum.  Without work points, the extra hands needed to make an event a success not only for the promoter, but for the riders as well, just aren't there.  Now you can debate all you want about whether it should be 25 points or 20, or even equal to your best finish, which is what I think it used to be back 10 years or so.  But this isn't something that hit us like the Wall Street bail out.  This was known going into the season and has not changed.  And the rule was the same for everyone on the track.  No one got an advantage over anyone else unless you chose not to work an event.   As for the throwaways, let's remember that this is not professional motocross.  Nobody is driving into the pits with a factory ride or sponsors paying them a salary to be there.  Some of the fast guys might be getting a little help, but nobody is doing this for a living.  Everyone knew at the start of the season that there were throwaways, and everyone got the same number.  Again, the rule was the same for everyone, and it was no secret.  You got to count your 10 best, just like the other guys, and whoever had the highest total from their 10 best won.  Same rule for everyone.  No advantage to anyone.  Now, if racing the whole season gets you a better 10 best races, you made out.  If you couldn't put together 10 rides from a season of 14 that were better than someone who only rode 10, well then you didn't beat them.  Now, no one will ever know, but if that 10-race guy had been earning more points than you at the other races (which if he beat you in year end rankings, he did) and he came to the other 4, chances are good he would have earned more than you at those 4, too.  Things happen over the course of a season.  Bikes break, people get hurt, or for the really insane, there might be a family thing going on during a weekend in the summer.  The throwaways are there to help everyone the same, and also to help the series.  How many people would have been to 10 races this year if that wouldn't have been enough?  If you know going in with the packed schedule we have and the cost of a weekend of racing that you miss one and your basically done, who will actually be there at the end?    Long post short, the rules work the same for everyone.  If the chips didn't fall your way, don't cry about it.  Be thankful you had a fun season, and if you feel you got burned by the work points, sign up to help on an event next year.  If someone beats you at chess because they knew the rules better, it doesn't mean they cheated or shouldn't be the winner.   The forum rules say to sign your name.  I've seen a lot of negative posts by semi- or completely anonymous people.  If you got something to say, sign it.   Jim Heffron
Just wanted to find out how Darrin was doing. He and my son talked at every race. They are in the same class and had some good battles between them. They always raced each other clean and after the race they would talk about their race.I shook his hand that morning and told him good luck. When I saw it was him that had crashed I was wishing the best for him.Our thoughts and prayers are with Darrin and his family.         Steve Lupole #589 and Zach Lupole # 747
Wanted to say to Darrin and his family that we are keeping you in our thoughts. As a quad rider and the father of a bike rider this is a sobering reminder of how dangerous this sport can be when something goes wrong. I was thinking that perhaps we should put together a fund for Darrin's family and for other riders and their family's in times like these. I know of, and have donated to the rider down foundation, but something a little more locally oriented might be helpful as well. The financial burden can get excessive when you consider the cost of fuel and food when you must travel to be with an injured loved one in the hospital.
Get well Darrin.

We would like to send out our thoughts & prayers to Darrin Strong & his family as he recuperates at the Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown since his accident at Unadilla on sunday. Even though we have never met, we are thinking of you & hope for a speedy recovery. Get well soon your fellow class rider # 733 Ryan VanCamp & family
When Darrin crashed two WNYOA members that are paramedic trained responded immediatly possibly preventing more injuries. I think ray was talking to Eric Nybek (STER member who was parked near him) whose son races some of the series and I'm
sure many of you know Dave Lord... they were first on the scene to help Darrin. We will put Darrin on our prayer list and lets also thank the riders and families that when there is an emergency come together and help. Just Another reason our series grows so consistenly... and I
have heard it many times from new comers that they like the people.

I would like to thank the Barnes crew for putting together an excellent course for the PW riders of Unidilla.  Without their efforts,  our young riders would not have been able to participate in the GNCC.  This was huge for the kids to know that they were part of this national event.  Realize one thing,  without our volunteer base, this would not be possible.  Thanks again to Larry, Dave, Lisa, Phil, Roger and Jim S. for making it happen.     Mike, Sherri, Nick and Kevin #150
I think it's great that WNYOA encourages riders to work events and earn 25 points. But on the other hand being able to use those extra 5 points to move another racer out of a points lead is wrong. My son takes pride in knowing that he earned his points by riding the best that he could threw the entire season. Just like his father last year he will not receive his 1st place trophy because he choose to ride all season. If WNYOA wanted to be fair they should require every rider to work at least one event to receive a year end trophy. I wouldn't be proud to know my son received a trophy because he knew working a race would promote him in points, this is not good sportsmanship.

The WCMC did an excellent with this years enduro!!  The 1 - loop format was way better than running the same loop twice and it was cool to ride the Hogback trails - combined into the enduro.  Resets were just right to give you time to rest and then charge again.  You guys did a great job and I appreciate all of your hard work you guys did to improve the Enduro.  Keep up the good work and we'll see you again next year:)

Anyone out their that knows richard vonderchek, jr, if you could please tell him to contact david chambers it would be appreciated. Thank you, Dave.
70th Annual Newark Enduro was the best that I've seen the Wayne County Motorcycle Club put on.  In fact it was the best enduro that I've ever ridden.  Sign up was organized, the course was well marked with just the right level of challenge and the right amount of trail, with the right mix of trails, and with no unnecessary mud bogs.  And thank you to the volunteer check workers.  The trail clearing was amazing, especially considering the major windstorm that hit the region less than a week before the event.  My hat is off to the WCMC and all of the hard work that they put into this event.  Great job guys!!!

while reading others comments on this forum I do understand their frustrations, however you cannot control the weather, you are choosing to attend an off road event...so it is what it is...an OFF ROAD EVENT.  If you do not have the means to travel up/down a muddy road then turn around and go home or park @ the bottom of the hill and walk, there was plenty of parking @ the bottom of the hill @ square deal.  Sure it sucks to have to walk, but you gotta do what you gotta do!!  Yes the youth track @ square deal is bumpy, but again, it is what it is....an OFF ROAD EVENT.  If the tracks were the same every race how much fun would that be??  I think some people are being too hard on the folks who hold these events.  Where would we be without them....stuck with no place to ride!!!  So thank you to all the landowners who hold these events and also a big thank you to those who work these events.  Eric Reeves desrves a big thanks for all the "crap" he puts up with too being the youth quad coordinator!!!   Thank you Eric!  And also thank you Scottie Rich for setting the youth track up @ square deal and thank you for the extra 5 minutes for the youth quads!!

Lyndon & Jessica Allis, Hunter Allis #868
Square Deal officials ought to be ashamed of themselves for not knowing how to start a race.  The bike start was absolutely ridiculous.  The flagger went down the line ONLY 4 or 5 riders deep and then raised the flag.  On the first line, AA, beyond the first 5 bikes on the flagger's right, the remaining wave was not even ready to start, and that should have been obvious because one bike was still running.  It was an inappropriate start and the entire line should have been called back to restart.  The flagger continued to start each wave the same way and that is NOT what our riders are accustomed to and there was no mention of it on the line.  There was no reason for this even when starting the waves 20 seconds apart.  It was a dis-service to our riders and let's hope it gets corrected next year!  Elaine Davis
I too saw the ambulance being towed up the hill.. and while standing there watching the minis cross the road, a truck pulling the River Ratz trailer was told to stop because there were kids coming.. He heard everyone yelling at him, he saw the caution flags waving, but kept going. I would have never expected such disrespect for our younger riders, from a promotor!! You could have really gotten one of these kids killed... And your race was a total wreck also.. your pit race contained 65cc, mini quads and whoever wanted to act like a fool..Saturday before noon  there were drunks on bikes, quads, no helmets and double riding.....Most of these people were your workers!!!!! And you footed the bill!!!! Even a quad during the mini race on Sunday came through the scanner with 2 riders on it..WNYOA needs to start taking some of these things serious.. I'm sure theres got to be a few promotors out there that would love to be put on the Schedule...Angie Dicks
I have just a few comments on the race at beldin hills. I have been a member of wynoa for three years. We as a team arrived at the track at 11.35, The owner or who ever he was ,came storming over to us and started giving us a hard time about being there 25 min early.....NEVER HAD A PROBLEM ANYWHERE ELSE. He told us that HIS gates open at 12 and that we needed to learn how to read. I have been insulted in my life, but this MAN/BOY takes the cake. This promoter needs to get a grip on life.

Also this MAN/BOY has had a few races at this track,FIX THE ROAD That was soooooo ridiculous I cant believe it. The dude on the tractor just really didn't care,he just hooked on to the cars and took off pulling you where ever he thought was ok,let alone into other cars/trees or what ever.owwwwww and lets just tow the ambulance up AFTER THE RACES ALREADY STARTED   geee thats real safe ya think ???? what would of happened if someone got hurt ?? how would they get down that hill?? Lets all think about that one. And just one more thing  why don't we just stick TEN KIDS IN A UTV and let them ride around all night with NO HELMETS.  WYNOA needs to really take a look at what happened at this race and take them off the list of races for 2009. i will not attend another race there. we will go and find a real race track !!!!!!!!!

The Worst of Racing and hopefully last at Square Deal.  A little Common Sense will go a long long way when it comes to mud and vehicles.  Tractors ARE NOT just for pulling vehicles up thru mud but also come in handy for.......Scalping the Mud off the ROAD!  Would have saved time, damage and eliminated some of the danger!!!!!!!  Very unsafe!  Our Kids had to ride their bikes up and back down....The tractor operator apparently did NOT know how to scalp the road of mud...........and I heard he had a lil mishap pulling one vehicle into another.  I and several others hollered to him to use the bucket on the mud, to no avail.  I witnessed another woman [kudos to her] telling him the same thing to which he replied;  why don't you work it?  She replied that she already worked two clubs [kudos again] and this man still did not heed the advice.  The track for the peewees..............well........very rough still and hard to race........jars the poor kids who had problems just staying on their bikes.  Time to make changes or just opt out for this club.  Sorry but not getting any better there.  It was a very stressful race just trying to get parked, watching the horror of the vehicles trying to climb thru all the mud while the tractor sat, sliding every which way and trying to avoid other cars/trucks..........It was a HORROR SHOW!  Shameful!  To answer the question some of you are asking, why don't I join a club and work the track?  I work work work.................a single Grandmother with only myself to rely on and blessed just to be able to get to the races.  So please, just use some common sense and courtesy to those just squeaking by to get the privilege to see the races.

Bright and Warm Blessings

Thanks to all who prayed, called and concerns for my well being after the accident at Knobby Acres. It was thoughtful and kind. I am also thanking God for not getting seriously hurt as well as to thank Him for using me to pull the young boy out of harms way. I hope he is ok too. I would like to know who the boy is. email me at jwilczfam@yahoo.com or call me (315) 252-0475. Thanks so much. Phyllis Wilczek
I want to personally thank Eric Reeves for all he does for the youth quad series.  If it wasn't for Eric the youth quad series would not exist.  Eric put together the best track so far this year at Knobby Acres, it was an awesome track and our son loved it.  Eric thank you for all the time and energy you put in for our kids.   It does not go unnoticed and we appreciate it so very much.  This is our first year in the series and you have made it a lot of fun for our kids.

Sassee Arnold Grandmother to three riders!
I would like to say good job once again to River Rats. This is the
second year my son and I have worked the race. And this is the second
year I have listened to bike riders complain about sweepers using
quads on the track during the bike race. Well the sweepers are out
there for your help and some of us, me for one, are not very good on
bikes, and would be more of a problem than help. Maybe Enderos are
the place for those who complain, that is something us quad riders
dont have the privlidge to do. So lets all enjoy the last three
harescrambles and remember to thank those who help. Be safe. Father
of mini c rider Jordan LaFave. Rick LaFave
Hi my father lost his keys to his truck at the river ratz harescramble. it is a single black key. He says he thinks to have lost it near the restrooms in the center of the pits. If anyone finds it could you please contact me at motomen@frontiernet.net.thanks Tyler Scultes #669 250c
**ALL RIDERS, FAMILY MEMBERS, FRIENDS, PIT CREWS, AND SPECTATORS** I was lined up in the starting area for the bike race this past weekend, and witnessed a very close incident with a young child and a bike. I also was spectating the quad race in the afternoon and  witnessed some very careless incidents with kids out on the course. Our series has experienced tremendous growth the last couple of years not only in the numbers of riders, but also the number of people spectating the event. There has been a couple of close calls this year, at other races, and if things continue as they are, it is just a matter of time before we have a very serious accident with a child, and bike or quad. There are young kids not only at the starting area, but also out on the course that are not looking before walking on, or crossing the course. Please as parents and guardians, I am asking that you have a talk with your children in the next couple of weeks about the danger of not looking before walking on, or crossing the race course. We do not put any restrictions as to where people can go and watch, like other motorcycle racing do, help WNYOA keep that possible by keeping everyone safe.  CHUCK REED  RIDER REP.

I would just like to say thank you to the men and women that made the River Ratz track, and worked the event! You did a phenomenal job, and in my opinion it was the track of the year by far. I loved the hills and did not mind the dust. The course workers were great, and when I crashed on a hill a course worker was right there too give me a hand. So kudos on a great race and an amazing track!

I would like to congratulate NATE THOMAS on a outstanding ride against CHRIS BORICH at river rats!!!!!!! Great job!!!! Al Dukerich
Thanks to the guys out in the woods during the youth quad race at Thunder Ridge.  Our son flipped his machine and it was only his 3rd race, we were pretty proud that he got right back on and finished the race.  It is people out there watching over the kids that make them want to continue.  Thanks again for watching out for him.

I think that the curfew time really needs to be inforced. At the race 2 weeks ago,
some gentlemen came into the camping area at 1:30-2:00 am , yelling and
caring on.Then they started their generator up at 2:00 for the rest of the night.
Now I know that they don't have to race in the early morning but  what about the
rest of our small children who do. PLEASE be more concentrate to your fellow
racers. Amy Kneebone
Thank you to Thunder Ridge too for the trophies for the mini's. We have over 60 plaques, so receiving a nice trophy every once in a while is great Idea. More promoters should consider it.     Ann Turcsik
Thank you Thunder Ridge for giving all Pee Wee riders (even Quads)
trophies.  More promoters should think about giving all pee wee quad
riders trophies.  I am sure the adult riders would pass them up to give
them to the kids.  Thanks again.

I would just like to thank the guy at Thunder Ridge who gave me gas a mile from the barrels, not too sure who it was but I really appreciate it!!! Thanks again, Nina Cobb #2 & 912
I left an fmf umbrella at thunder ridge in the barn when they were giving out plaques after the big quads. It has Hub written on the strap that holds it all together.  I would very much appreciate getting it back if you picked it up.  Contact me at Hubbell521@aol.com and let me know if you have it.  I can pick it up at River Ratz.   Thanks much.  Austin Hubbell 811

If you picked up a Monster Umbrella at the King Ferry race up by the start, please turn it in at sign up with my name on it or contact me.. IThanks

Hey, I just got home from the King Ferry race. While there my pit neighbors brought it to my attention that my EZ-UP my have caused some damage to another families RV at the IDR race. My tent was broken when I finished the race and I was sure that something had happened. I didn’t hang out for to long after the race as I got caught on the barbwire and had to go for a few stitches. Please contact me so that I can make it right by you. Also, thank you for setting it back up and lowering it. I don’t know why I didn’t stake it I usually do.

We would like to compliment the IDR race promotor for laying out one of the best youth quad tracks so far this year. It was wide enough for the kids to pass without difficulty and without having to wait for an opening. It was not just a one line track with all of the kids backed up and not able to pass. Thanks for the great job!  Pat and Amy Lord
LOST!!! At High Gear, I lost my bright orange truck nutz off the back of my quad not even half way through the first lap of the race. If anyone picked them up or has them I would really like them back. If you can leave them at the sign-in tent or email me at Santee_7@hotmail.com just to let me know that you have them it would be greatly appreciated.

To the Mini Rider "Ames", (I can't remember your number)  I have your goggles and will bring them to the next race, King Ferry. I am sorry that I did not get them to the barrels after that race but I had to run to the Mini Quad race and then the big bike start. You can look for the "Flat Broke" camp or I will bring them to the start of the mini's.  I  didn't want you to worry about getting a new pair this week if you didn't have a spare. I would like to thank the three guys who helped me out when I ran out of gas at the IDR hare scramble.  I still didnt finish very well but at least I had the chance to complete the race. Its People like that who make this sport so much fun. Thanks again Judd Callear #65 Open A
Did anyone pickup some black scott goggles at Ithaca Dirt Riders race on sunday?(someone did). They have tear-off posts on them with no tear offs. I put them after the start on the hill turns before the woods. Even if they got ran over I would appriciate it if you would please contact me or/and bring them to the sign in tent next race.
Thank you IDR for making a realllyy nice track.

Eric Otto # 742 125-200C  o_e_otto@yahoo.com
IDR, you put on a great show. The track was awesome, and very fast. Some muddy section but not like it could have been seeing how you got rained on a couple of days before. To all of the racers, PLEASE, when you are pulling over for gas, look around you before you lock up the brakes and turn sideways. Right after the timing tent on the first lap, I was behind someone that decided at the last second they were going to pit and never turned his head. We were both tapped out in 4th-5th gear and when he turned, we slammed into eachother, thankfully we both stayed on our wheels. Then after the race, I heard that he went against traffic right after that. PLEASE don't do that, I got my knee and my bike tore up pretty good. To all of the spectators, PLEASE, when you are going to cross the track make sure no one is coming. On the second lap, right after the timing tent, as I came out of the tent a girl decided to cross the track and look the opposite way that I was coming from. I was moving pretty good and all I could do to warn her was rev my bike up to move her. This is how people get hurt. I don't want to sound like a jerk, I just don't like getting hurt because someone elses lack of common sense and I definetly don't want to see someone else get hurt. If people get hurt, WNYOA won't be able to keep going because of insurance. Stay safe but ride hard. Last thing, I feel that every class should have a colored tag on the back of their helmet like we did at Unadilla last year. I do my best to watch numbers when I'm riding, but when you come to a day rider, they are all 200 series numbers and you can't tell if they are in your class or not. I give props to day riders for coming and riding with us, but I hate following them through the timing gate when the checkered flag is out and losing a spot because I didn't know they were in my class. Who else thinks that this is a good idea? Please post so WNYOA knows. Thank you and hope to see all of you at the r aces, Good luck and be careful. Tony Musto, 251 Open C #832
Thank you to all the riders and parents who participated in the Cortland Rodney Smith and Steve Hatch riding clinic.  It was two days of a lot of fun.  A big thank you to Mark and Cindy Davis for a beautiful piece of property to learn on.  Thank you to Rick and Barbara Barron for providing Saturday lunch.  It was a great group of people and we are very grateful for a successful weekend of riding. To the riders for having a great attitude in the fun filled rainy day and to learn how to ride rain or shine.  Your awesome.

Hope to see you all at the races, good luck, remember we are always here if you need anything. Keep working hard, full throttle ahead.

I would like to thank Rodney & Lori Smith and Steve & Denise Hatch for putting on the riding clinic this weekend at Knobby Acres. What you guys taught those kids was something that will raise their riding ability a tremendous amount.I've seen several clinics put on before, but what you brought to them will stay with them the rest of their lives. Saturday was nice & dry. Sunday was....well....a torrential downpour, yet you stayed. Kudos to you dedicated racing people that are willing to share your vast knowledge & experience with others. Anyone that thinks they need to work on areas of their riding skills should attend their clinic this week in Berkshire. Once again, thank you so much.....Ron Jones
Many thanks to John Houston and all the people who helped to put on a great event at the Beaten Trails Harescrambles!  It has been a few years since racing a NY state race and I was excited to see many great friends from the past as I grew up in Ithaca, prior to now living in Arizona.  Saturday night I called my old teammate and buddy Rodney Smith to go race the New York state local Beaten Trails Harescramble the following morning.  Half way through the race, at gas, Rodney said “I need to train if I’m going to be racing again.”  I had Lee Rowland in from SC to train and I had him race the harescrambles to experience some upstate NY terrain. After finishing Lee said “sure are a lot of rocks here!” He had a blast!  Very different from the flat sand area he rides in SC.  A couple of years ago, I transitioned from professional racing to now, training up and coming guys. Rodney Smith did his transition from racing to training Suzuki’s East coast and West coast teams last winter.  We both know how important it is to train and be in shape even to race local races! We both had a great time and enjoyed seeing old friend’s and racing in NY states beautiful countryside.  We both thought the track was technical and fun.  Myself and Rodney are in upstate for a few weeks to visit family and put on riding clinics for the locals here in NY.  We will offer three clinics at different locations and cover not only riding techniques, but also training on and off the bike, sponsors, nutrition, and mental focus.   To get the dates, locations and times check out my new website at  m or www.stevehatchracing.cocall Lori Smith at 925-437-8093 or email her at rodsuz@sbcglobal.net.  If you can’t make the clinics and want more training, I am also offering video clips on his website that cover all techniques on the motorcycle. I was impressed to see such a great turnout to the NY Harescrambles series. Rodney and I look forward to seeing everyone at the Berkshire Harescrambles and the Unadilla GNCC in Sept.    Full Roost! Lost at Beaten Trails 6/29:  Prm swingarm skid plate during quad race.
Its the thickest skid plate PRM makes .250.  These things are expensive
so if somebody found it please return it to Tom Edsell or leave it at
rider registration. It could also be returned to me in the pits,  my
rider number is 628.  It would really help me out if it was found and
returned.  Tsedsell@gmail.com.

Hi, I lost my right side hand guard(aluminum and plastic peice) at the Beaten Trails bike race. It is black and it is the Moose hand guard combo. If there is any chance that someone found this or knows someone that found this please let me know. We all know how expensive these things are and how much we really need these during a harescramble. Please contact me as soon as possible because I don't want to have to buy new ones if I don't have to. Get at me at tmusto@corning-cc.edu, 607-377-5224 or 607-425-0426. This would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tony #832

From Mike and Sherri Johnson - to those who made it successful, thank you very much for your help and participation.  We at WNYERA are greatful for all that went right.  From almost canceling three weeks before our date, to having so many step up and help us pull it off.  -  Thank you.  To everyone that came to ride and race, thanks for understanding that we were under great pressure to make sure that a few outsiders couldn't find fault and that the WNYOA "off roaders" really are a "good bunch of people".

Enjoy your weekend off.  I'm sure most of you wont be to far from your machine!

Thanks again,

WNYERA

Found at the Beaten Trails hare scramble event on June 29, 2008 - Chest protector and Camelback.  To identify , please contact John Houston at 607 642-9551

I worked the Beaten Trails event.  I found a black pair of Scott goggles and a kick starter.  I also have a pair of green goggles from the mini race ( I believe #102).  I will give these items to the sign up crew at IDR.  If the person missing the kick starter would like it back earlier and would like to pick it up contact me at bford154@yahoo.com.

P:S

I know the track turned out to be quite difficult due to the rain we recieved last week, but everyone at Beaten Trails put in many hours laying out a course that would be fun and challenging for all.

I left a goggle container and gas can (right after the grass track) in the woods at Alexander.  The goggles were in a tupperware container with a Suspension Systems decal on the lid.  Inside were 3 or 4 pairs of goggles, a pair of gloves and misc. goggles supplies.  Beside the goggle container, I also left a red 2 gallon gas can.  If anyone has information re these items, please contact Jim DiFonzo, Senior A #402.  I can be reached on my cell @ 716-485-3267 or e-mail @ jimdifonzo@windstream.net.  Also, hats off to the WNYERA club.  You guys always put on a great race and this year was no different.  I know there was a lot of last minute scrambling to pull all the trail together, but it was certainly worth it from a riders perspective.
I just wanted to thank all those who attended Miles Mountain this past weekend.  Hopefully you had an enjoyable experience.  I especially wanted to thank all the volunteers for their countless hours.  To Ray for his many, many hours behind the scenes developing the scoring system and Deb for all her work at sign up.  Also Roger, the wizard behind the curtain for all his hard work.  If anyone did not get their plaque or knows someone who did not, please let me know and we can make arrangements to bring it to an upcoming event.  Thanks again.  Jeremy, Miles Mountain
I'd like to thank everyone that puts on the Beaten Trails race for a great event last year & for what i know will be another great race! Thanks to Dan Leonard & everyone that helps him put it together, but most of all to Pete Houston & family. I know he puts in a lot of hard work & preparation to make the race possible. Once again. thank you Beaten Trails & to everyone responsible for making it happen!. Hope to see everyone there this weekend......and bring ur rain gear!  :o)      Ron Jones, proud grandfather of Marcus, Mini B rider # 100
At Alexander, I believe my gas can was mistaken for their own. It's a 2 gallon can that was in the last right-hand sweeper corner before the first woods. The can that I found left there was the same type and size gas can but has a Motorex, Race Tools and MSR stickers on it, also a very little straight gas. Mine didn't have any sticker and it, but was full of 2-stroke gas, which we all know is better gas than 4 stroke gas(woops, did I say that out loud, just kidding). If you recognize this, let me know, Thank You

We would like to thank everyone who was concerned about Derek after the bikes race at Alexander. He had a bad crash and hit his knee off a tree, but he is fine, he just has a deep bruise to the side of his knee. Thanks so much, The Holcomb Family.
Hello all, What a great season! Wow...good job promotors, racers and fans! It's been fun for sure.. We're looking for Nate's front number plate from Alexander.. #711 Red White and Blue PG graphix...N8dogg on the top of it.  We could really use it back...it is so expensive...plus he had 2 Narly crashes that left carnage on the YZ.....gotta replace the left radiator, shroud..etc.  Please consider bringing it to the next race... Many people saw it and even tried to retrieve it, but could not hold on to their bars and it for very long.  Huge thanks for your attempts guys!  Couse Racing N8dogg #711 Hey...How's Derek????  Hope your leg feels better Derek...  We're all thinkin' 'bout ya!

I want to thank the sign up crews for all their hard work to get everyone signed up as quickly as possible. However, I think with the rapidly-expanding size of the rider contingent, WNYOA needs to explore some type of online pre-entry for the hare scramble events. Then once at the event, the rider could confirm that they are at the race. The sign up line at Dream Riders took well over an hour to negotiate. Dan Jarecke Vet A

hi would just like to send out a excellent start to new season to Scott Rich, to go from bikes to quads thats no easy task so my hats off to you my friend, keep it up and kick butt and take names. " aka The teacher " Rick Armstrong

GREAT JOB TO ALL OF THE ARCADIA BARK BUSTERS. Your event was a great event, and also the weather was great. I walked around the pits, the starting area, track, signup, scoring area, and I could tell that you put in a lot of time and effort in putting on a quality Hare Scramble. Your trails were in my opinion excellent, they had a good mix of grass track and technical tight trail, and plenty of places to pass. The scoring ares was placed in a very convenient location so things could be easily accessed. The pits were awesome starting with the cones down the middle for a roadway and also the mowed fields for parking, also a dumpster for trash, plenty of porta johns. You had a great area for your emergency squads and a roadway for them to get there equipment in and out of. This is a again in my opinion, a testament to what can happen when you have a group of dedicated off-road bike and quad riders that truly love this sport, and would like to continue making it a better sport. You only get out of what you have, by what you put into it, and it shows that everyone involved put in a tremendous amount of man hours. In ending this I would like to say the most amazing accomplishment of this event is that it was all put together in the last 5 weeks. Again hats off to you all, for your dedication to this great Hare Scramble. CHUCK REED #879 B-SENIOR AND BIKE RIDER REP.

The "perfect race!" The guys that put this race on (in 4 weeks I might add!) did an incredible job - hats off to them - they couldn't have done it any better!

I talked to so many riders, not only did they love the track, they had a good time - isn't that what it's all about? Thanks for putting the spirit back into the race guys. Excellent job!

Just wanted to say that the Arcadia Bark Buster Race was excellent!!! Especially considering that the crew only had a few weeks to get a track laid out and the event organized. The course workers should be quite proud as well...there a couple troublesome spots, but the workers were on top of them quickly...temporarily re-routing while they filled in ruts, or pulled bikes out. Kudos Arcadia!! Mark B...#543

I ,too, would like to thank Arcadia Bark Busters for such a well organized event and laid out track. The camping area was great and located so everything was easily accessed without long walks. The track was laid out not only good for racing but for those of us that can only watch. There were numerous places that a good deal of the track could be seen. Us spectators and support people like to see not only their riders but the whole field for more than a short glance over a 2 hour period. The length of Arcadia's track was perfect, therefore the field was able to do more laps and we as spectators were able to see more action. Once again, GREAT job and thanks to the Busters and all that helped to make the event so successful. On another note, and this is a little biased. could those that give the talk at the starting line before each event stress to the riders that if someone comes up behind them and is trying to get by to please pull over and let them pass. This is not only courteous but can help prevent riders from taking unnecessary chances. Granted Arcadia's track had plenty of grass track to pass in however, being such a good viewing track I could see many long trains of bikes in the woods with a few slow bikes holding up many others. After viewing this as a spectator. I talked to several riders and they confirmed that slow bikes weren't letting them by. Maybe some riders aren't aware that they are causing this.

Thanks again to everyone that make these weekend soooo fun!!! Chris....Neen's dad #2

To the Arcadia Bark Busters, I hope the rest of the races are just like that one. You helped all of us riders put on a great show. I was glad to see that we finally got to a hare scramble and out of the fields. You spaced the open spots out perfect so when our bikes got heated up, we would have a good straight strech to cool them back down. It was also very nice to get into a technical course and see how everyone can really ride. Thank you so much, Hope to see you again next year. To all of the other riders, Congrats for being able to going. The course was very technical and yet there were not very times when riders were down. Good Job. Tony #832

Just checking in to see how Mary, the young lady from the mini's class, is doing. She took a spill at the harescrambles and bumped her leg pretty bad. She was quite a trooper about it, though. Hope she is doing well! Jim Heffron Course worker

Kudos to Arcadia! They made a major impression on our group. Was grand to see the head's spread out. :) The layout was very good. I mentioned letting the peewee signups get moved up in line for registration and they did. How great is that? Courteous people and great support team. I just want to remind everyone; please pick up after yourselves......Please be courteous back. Smokers [which I am one] please put your butts in garbage....it's no wonder smokers get bad names with the careless attitudes of disposal. Three cheers to the Arcadia crew!!!!!!!!!!

Bright and Warm Blessings

Sassy Arnold Grandmother to three riders!

I lost my rear grab bar at some point during the quad race at arcaidia...if anyone happened to pick it up could you email me at sxcracing@hotmail.com or call 607-316-7519 or just bring it to the next race and leave it at the signup tent. That would be great! Its a PRM product rear grab bar. Thank you so much Brad Schultes Quad # 415

I personally would like to commend the Arcadia Bark Busters for conducting an outstanding Hare Scramble this past weekend. This club was formed four weeks ago and in that short time frame they not only met all the AMA requirements but also designed a course and conducted and event that people enjoyed. There were 532 riders in attendance which is over 100 riders greater than the average hare scramble conducted last year.

Ditto on the great organization, marked trail and friendly reception as we entered the field and at sign up.

Hats off for a job well done.

Just a quick note to the guys in the 250 A line. It was nice meeting and bench racing with you fellas after the race. Near last off the line it was pretty cool that no one punted me off any of the bridges as we tore through the first part of the grass track. Nice to finish a race with a little bar banging and creative lines without any complaints from anyone. I think I finally found the class that excepts my off the pegs attempts to get faster and race the coarse as hard as I can. Thanks for introducing me to a great bunch of guys Tom.

I would like to give a hats off salute to ALL of the promoters that put on races for the WNYOA series! Being part of Arcadia and working as hard as we did to pull off the event I have a whole new respect for everyone involved in ANY event. There is so much that goes into putting on an event, I had no clue, until involved first hand. All promoters, workers and anyone involved in any aspect of putting on a race deserve kudos and I'll be the first to say thank you and thank you ahead of time for the upcoming races. Keep up the good work. Jerry Bulman

Arcadia Barkbusters would like to give a big thanks to everyone who was involved in putting on this race in such a short time given. This includes the group of hard working men and women and their families and friends who worked extremely hard to put on an excellent race. Also to all of the other workers from the outside including the landowners, vendors, the businesses who supplied the necessary equipment or supplies that we needed, the Fairville Fire Dept. & ambulance crew, and anyone else that we may have missed. A big thank you to everyone else from Ray & Debbie and to all of the riders and spectators and their families and friends for supporting and giving us, a new promoter, a chance to show you that we are capable of providing a successful event. We couldn't have done it and suceeded with out you. Again a BIG THANKS to all & hope that everyone had a great time. See you next year. Debbie V.

Hello everyone. I was just wondering what everyone thought about the idea of when you work an event for WNYOA, as long as your a registered rider, you could get a plaque that said WORKED or PARTICIPANT. Would that give you more incentive on top of the 25 points to work an event? Everyone likes plaques, and this is a way to show that you worked the event on top of the 25 points. Please post here and let WNYOA know what you think about this idea. Tony #832

HATS OFF TO MY BRO NATE THOMAS FINISHING THIRD, AND ON THE PODIUM WITH THE PROS AT MILES MOUNTAIN. KEEP UP THE RAGE OF RACING , GOOD LUCK WITH WNYOA, BUT EVEN BETTER LUCK WITH THE NATIONALS!!!! GREAT JOB! NICK.THOMAS

The folks at Miles Mountain need take example from Arcadia on how to put on a good event. This year was a major disappointment. Delayed events and track workers with cavalier attitudes.......and drinking. My Grandson, Keegan Satterly ended up breaking down on the first lap way up in the woods. My daughter kept telling track officials he had not come back but they said to wait till the race was over. He is ten and we worried about his finding his way back. He finally did make it back with our Hero, Jim Bouden.....[hope I spelled correctly] who saved Keegan when he encountered a black bear and was about to run. Jim told him to stay still and pushed Keegan behind him. Fortunately the Bear realized he/she had met their match and decided to leave this Papa Bear alone!!!! The bear was as close as 5 feet away from them. Jim, I know everyone suggested throwing Keegan at the bear and making a run for it, :) but I am eternally grateful that you didn't. You are a blessing and our Hero! I then heard that the track people knew about this bear for a week and gave no warnings to the participants. Jeremy, you complained about the kids NOT staying with their bikes and stating that you knew about the bear. Shame on you. You can claim the bear is harmless all you want but anyone knows that it doesn't take much to set them off. The workers kept putting off going to find the bike and after a couple hours finally did take Keegan with them to get it. The poor Kid could not remember where and they came back frustrated and in the mean time we were worried about it getting stolen with all the gear on it. Oh, no, don't worry about that we were told. A friend of a friend became concerned when dark was approaching and took Jim with him on his 4 wheeler to get the bike while the workers stopped off for whatever......we did notice the beer can in the Kubota........So we come to our second Hero of the day, Chad. He had made trips around the track alone and could not find the bike until he got Jim to show him where. Jim was riding the bike back when the workers were finally on their way again. Two young men were by the bike when they arrived and Jim told them the bike didn't run, they stated that it did. Hmmmmmmmmm, what does this tell you? Chad and Jim got to the bike just in time. When it is peewee's or mini's I think the sweepers should be bringing these kids and their bikes back to the starting point. This has been a valuable lesson that I hope everyone will learn from. Also, it is time the Heads got cleaned up! We kept getting put off by numerous track people with non challant attitudes. Racing is not cheap and we do not usually stick around but this time we had no choice. I do give Kudos to the ladies working the concession, they were great! Again, I remind everyone to clean up after themselves...............

Bright and Warm Blessings Sassee Arnold, grandmother to three racers.

Parents please be aware of other kids riding pit bikes or bikes in general threw camping and grass areas. My 3 year old was hit by a girl wearing a bikini on a small pit bike? while waiting for results to be posted on the bulletin board at Miles Mountain. He was playing with other children running around when he ran out she was cutting in front of the board with the bike. Thank god she wasn't going any faster than she was. We didn't realize until after she took off that he had a good size gash on his wrist where skin was missing. We have been attending WNYOA events for 5 years and are fully aware of bikes and atvs cutting threw camping areas, but this girl was not a rider and there was no reason for her to be riding around. She was maybe 13 years old why she was riding around on bike in a bikini who knows.
